Your Mission
As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be part of our R&D and IT Engineering team, playing a key role in building and evolving the backend services that power JOE & THE JUICE’s digital platforms and customer experiences.
Your mission is to design, deliver, and maintain scalable, reliable backend solutions that support critical journeys such as payments, ordering, loyalty, and user management. You will work closely with product and engineering teams to ensure our systems are secure, performant, and ready to scale with the business.
By combining strong technical expertise with ownership and curiosity, you will help translate product ideas into robust backend architecture, improve operational stability, and continuously raise the bar for code quality, performance, and engineering practices across the team.
Who You Are
You are a senior backend developer with solid experience building and operating production‑grade systems who understands that strong software starts with clarity, ownership, and real‑world reliability. You enjoy being close to the product and the people using it, working hands‑on with complex backend services, and continuously improving how systems perform in practice, not just in theory.
You are structured but pragmatic, confident enough to challenge technical decisions and architectural choices, and humble enough to test, learn, and refine solutions over time. You build trust through quality, consistency, and collaboration, and you are known for raising engineering standards while keeping solutions practical, scalable, and maintainable.
You will report into Engineering leadership within the R&D and IT organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and evolve scalable backend services that support JOE & THE JUICE’s digital products and key customer journeys, including payments, ordering, loyalty, and user management
- Own and maintain backend architectures and APIs, ensuring high standards of reliability, security, performance, and long‑term scalability
- Optimize backend systems through thoughtful design, performance tuning, and effective use of caching and data models
- Build and maintain secure, resilient integrations with internal platforms and external partners
- Take end‑to‑end ownership of backend components, from implementation and testing to deployment, release support, and post‑production follow‑up
- Actively monitor live systems and contribute to improving operational stability, alerting, and observability
- Collaborate closely with other teams to deliver cohesive end‑to‑end solutions
- Contribute to continuous improvement of backend engineering practices, tooling, and standards
What you’ll bring & role requirements
- Strong experience building, operating, and maintaining backend services in a production environment
- Proven expertise with Node.js and TypeScript, including designing and maintaining robust APIs
- Solid experience with databases, data modeling, and backend integrations across business‑critical flows
- Experience working with cloud‑based infrastructure, preferably within AWS environments
- Ability to own complex technical tasks independently while collaborating effectively within a team
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a pragmatic approach to system design, performance, and reliability
- Comfort working in a product‑driven, cross‑functional environment with evolving requirements
- This role is based in Copenhagen and is part of our R&D and IT Engineering organization
