Job purpose:
Janes is seeking a Military Events Analyst to join the Current Military Intelligence Team and provide comprehensive and connected data on the military activities of global military forces.
The analyst will primarily work on data collection, processing, analysis and dissemination, along with supporting external qualitative analyses on a project-basis. In this role, the analyst is expected to contribute to Janes world-class interconnected current intelligence data by creating structured data and conducting qualitative analysis.
How you will contribute at Janes:
- Monitoring and recording military activity of countries using open-source tools
- Conducting OSINT investigations and transforming information into actionable data or intelligence analysis
- Monitoring low and high intensity conflicts
The ideal skills and experience for this role are:
- Excellent English writing and communication skills.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in international affairs, defence and security studies, or similar.
- Proven knowledge of NATO, Russian, or APAC tactical and operational military affairs. This role is NOT about geopolitics.
- Previous roles in academia/Think-tank (Defence and Security studies), government (Defence and Security), or companies who support Government in Defence and Security matters.
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of military assets/platforms/doctrines/procedures, with military service or defence analyst experience beneficial.
- Open-source intelligence research skills, including familiarity with social media and imagery intelligence.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following language will be a plus: Russian, Farsi, Chinese, Korean
- Technical skills in Python, data visualisation, and GIS beneficial.
