Senior Design Engineer, Mechanisms (m/f/d)
Mission Brief
You will need strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with direct reports and leaders within and outside the organization. You will be responsible for developing stage separation mechanisms, fairing separation mechanisms, hydraulic and pneumatic actuators and umbilical systems. Ideally you have significant mechanical and integrated design experience as well as proven track record of organizing and completing collaborative projects effectively. Your advanced design, analysis and manufacturing skills enable you to own the outcomes of key mechanism design trades and development our Spectrum Launch Vehicle, as well as help you mentor other design engineers across the organization.
Your Role in Our Space Mission:
- Leading design of the vehicle mechanisms through design phases until qualification and acceptance
- Requirements definition for vehicle mechanisms
- Driving trade studies, manufacturing optimization and performance for mechanisms
- Leading and developing the mechanisms team, including hiring for new roles and identifying growth areas to fill
- Coordination partner team developments in structures, avionics and propulsion
- Creating, reviewing, releasing and approving development and flight hardware drawings and design documentation
- Identifying build/test/design optimizations and working them to resolution
Qualification Checklist
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering or related field
- Proficient German and English skills
- 10+ years of experience in a full cycle aerospace design engineering role, including CAD, analysis, and min. 5+ years in assembly and test
- Relevant experience leading a hardware development team
- Experience with kinematic synthesis, pneumatic/hydraulic actuation, mechatronics, instrumentation, structures strength, stability, fatigue failure modes and tribology
- Experience with manufacturing processes, project management, scheduling/planning, materials and surface treatments
Bonus Skills
- Experience in structure and fluid systems for launch vehicle design, manufacturing and assembly techniques.
- Experience with design engineering tools such as NX, TeamCenter, Solidworks, Ansys, Altair HyperWorks solutions, Nastran
- Experience with ERP/MES Systems, product lifecycle management (PLM) and/or data management
