Terms of Reference - Senior AI Software Engineer, Consultant 

The Opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior AI Software Engineer to join our team on a 10-month contract basis. You will play a critical role in the development and deployment of our cutting-edge AI solutions designed to enhance citizen engagement with government services. This project includes building robust capabilities for service applications and integrating Voice over AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities: 

• Design and Development: Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable and robust AI/ML models and LLM-based workflows using frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or equivalent.
• Voice over AI Implementation: Design and integrate Voice over AI capabilities, focusing on natural language understanding (NLU), speech recognition, and synthesis to create an intuitive user experience for service applications.
• Service Application Engine: Develop the core AI components that guide citizens through the process of applying for government services, ensuring accuracy, security, and compliance.
• Code Quality and Review: Write high-quality, efficient, and well-documented code. Conduct thorough code reviews to maintain engineering standards and promote best practices across the team.
• Deployment and Optimization: Work closely with MLOps and DevOps teams to deploy AI software into production environments. Monitor, optimize, and fine-tune for performance, latency, and resource efficiency.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, and subject matter experts to translate requirements into technical specifications and deliver innovative features.
• Troubleshooting & Support: Provide technical guidance and troubleshoot complex issues related to the AI platform and deployed services.

Qualifications: 

Required Skills & Experience

• Senior-Level Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with at least 2 years focused specifically on AI/ML engineering.
• Programming Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in Python and experience with relevant AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn).
• NLP/Voice Expertise: Strong experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Natural Language Understanding (NLU), and a proven track record of implementing Voice over AI or Speech-to-Text/Text-to-Speech (STT/TTS) solutions.
• System Design: Demonstrated experience designing and building production-grade, scalable distributed systems for AI applications.
• Contract Focus: Proven ability to deliver high-quality results within a tight, fixed-term contract (e.g., prior experience in short-term, high-impact projects).

Preferred Skills

• Experience working with government or public-sector technology platforms.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of data security and privacy best practices.
