About The Role
We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer with prior AI/ML experience, specifically with recent hands-on experience leveraging generative AI to build Production-ready applications. As a Staff Engineer at Invisible, you will act as a technical lead for a product area or scrum team, shaping technical architecture and guiding engineering execution.
You will work across a modern backend stack (Python, Django, Postgres, GCP, Docker/Kubernetes) and leverage GenAI frameworks (OpenAI or others) to build high-impact internal and customer-facing tools.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the technical design and development of scalable backend systems for AI-powered applications.
- Architect, build, and optimize APIs and workflow systems, including GraphQL subscriptions and event-driven architectures.
- Leverage GenAI frameworks to design and deploy intelligent tools and features.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, operations, and AI teams to deliver reliable, scalable systems.
- Ensure best practices in modular architecture, security, observability, and operational excellence.
- Act as a mentor within the engineering team, supporting best practices and technical growth.
What We Need
- Extensive Python programming experience.
- Recent experience building tools and applications using GenAI frameworks (OpenAI or others), either in professional roles or advanced side projects.
- Experience with cloud platforms (GCP preferred).
- Deep expertise in container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Mastery of workflow systems, event-driven architectures, and API development.
- Proficiency in modular software architecture and best practices for scalable system design.
- Experience designing and managing enterprise software systems with a focus on security, observability, and operations.
- Extensive use of version control systems, particularly Git.
- Strong documentation skills for design specifications and implementation details.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with Django, Postgres, Doppler, Backstage, and observability tools like Datadog, Sentry are a big plus.

For this position, the annual salary ranges by location are:
Tier 1
$94,000 - $100,000 USD
An Invisible Talent Acquisition Partner can provide more information on which locations are included in each of our geographic pay tiers during the interview process. For candidates outside the U.S., compensation will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions and cost-of-living differentials.
Bonuses and equity are included in offers above entry level. Final compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including location, job-related experience, skills, knowledge, internal pay equity, and overall market conditions. Because of this, every offer is unique. Additional details on total compensation and benefits will be discussed during the hiring process.
