We are now recruiting a Customs Practice Lead as part of the ongoing development of our advisory practices.
JOB BRIEF
The role will be working within our growing advisory practices business and you will be responsible for leading the growth and delivery of high value advisory and consultancy services to clients, representing the Chartered Institute, delivering thought leadership and expertise at relevant industry and government forums.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main function of this job is to lead the Chartered Institute customs practice directing the customs strategy of the whole business.
The role will require engagement with key stakeholders in the public and private sector, with delivery of solutions internally and in engagement with consultancy firms, technology providers and logistics service providers.
The role holder will also be responsible for delivery of high value trade and customs advisory (consultancy) programme and be seen as one of the UK’s leading experts in their field.
- In conjunction with the Director – Customs Practice to lead and direct the customs practice which is focused on customs, borders and trade.
- Delivery of high value advisory and consultancy to key clients
- Engaging effectively with senior stakeholders in private sector companies, consultancy firms, logistics service providers, government, and trade bodies.
- Delivery of industry presentations and industry papers as a leading trade and customs industry specialist, representing the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade.
- Public speaking engagements on behalf of the Institute at major industry and government events on matters specific to trade and customs, both face to face and through online webinars and podcasts
- To represent the Institute at relevant industry and certain government forums.
- To play a leading role in further developing the Chartered Institute’s strategy and product development in the area of customs and trade.
- Review trade and customs papers from industry, consultancy firms and trade and customs software providers and trade compliance providers.
- Deal with urgent enquiries raised by key stakeholders.
- To act as a National and Regional Champion for the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade, engaging with key stakeholders and identifying opportunities to support and grow the Chartered Institute membership and learning base.
- To remain at the leading edge of trade and customs policy and procedures in the UK and Internationally
- To act as an ambassador for the function and the organisation in terms of diligent and ethical conduct and performance
- To communicate in an articulate, professional, and informed manner across all levels of the business, both internally and externally
- To maintain the integrity of the business through the accurate and timely recording of all relevant data
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with a changing environment nationally and globally, and a proactive business function.
DESIRED SKILLS SET AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrable experience in winning and delivering high value advisory engagements
- Experience in delivering thought leadership and actionable advice in public speaking and written content
- The role holder will have proven experience including but not limited to leading industry expertise on customs compliance, customs authorisations and special procedures, customs declarations, origin, classification, valuation and CDS data.
- Specific experience in developing others and in instilling best practice consulting behaviours and processes is of great interest
