Main Purpose

An IT Manager manages the IT function and software infrastructure of a company. The primary duties are the security of the company’s computer systems and electronic data, the development and implementation of customised systems and overseeing all computer-related activities.

The IT Manager will be responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, and maintenance of our IT systems, ensuring their reliability, security, and efficiency. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader capable of managing a small team and working collaboratively with other departments to deliver effective IT solutions.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a small IT team (if applicable), fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Strategic IT Planning: Develop and implement the company's IT strategy in alignment with business objectives, including infrastructure upgrades, software deployments, and security enhancements.
  • System Administration: Manage and maintain operating systems, applications, and security tools, ensuring optimal performance, stability, and security.
  • IT Support & Helpdesk Management: Oversee the provision of efficient and effective IT support to all employees, managing the helpdesk function and ensuring timely resolution of technical issues. Provide cover and be an escalation point for the service team.
  • Data Security & Compliance: Implement and enforce IT security policies and procedures to protect company data and systems from threats and ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR).
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with IT vendors, negotiate contracts, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services and products.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficient allocation of resources.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, configurations, and procedures. Generate regular reports on IT performance, security, and budget.   
  • Project Management: Lead and manage IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required specifications.
  • Technology Evaluation: Research and evaluate new technologies and solutions to improve efficiency, security, and business capabilities.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, or Computer Science is required. Sometimes, a Foundation Degree, university course, or higher national diploma (HND) in Computer Networking and Security, Networking Communications Systems, Computer Science, or Digital Communications is accepted. Some companies honor apprenticeships, training with a provider, or industry certification. 
  • Operational Experience: The IT Manager must have extensive experience in IT operations or IT department supervisory experience. A strong candidate would have knowledge of Google, Microsoft, Apple, and service desk management tools.
  • Problem Solving: Proven record of problem-solving and project management skills is usually appreciated. Professional experience in automating manual tasks, SLO/SLA Implementation, and improving reliability with process automation, QA testing, and enterprise platform administration.
  • Leadership: Extensive experience in a management position (e.g., manager, team lead, or architect) responsible for managing a team of software, SRE, or DevOps engineers in support of an Agile production environment.
  • Professional experience with Application Performance Monitoring tools and cross-platform integrations.
  • Tenacity to drive issues to conclusions and develop sustainable and scalable solutions.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively function in an interrupt-driven and high-visibility environment.
  • Effective communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
