Operational Risk Manager
IMC’s Risk Team works closely with our Trading and Technology teams to manage and mitigate the risks associated with IMC’s trading strategies across a wide range of products, exchanges, and technologies. The team is responsible for identifying and assessing risks, determining appropriate controls, and developing metrics and tools to monitor them. It acts as a key stakeholder in ensuring the firm’s business activities remain within its risk appetite, engaging directly with the business to review and challenge risk management actions.
The APAC region presents a significant opportunity, and IMC has ambitious plans to grow its presence and expand its footprint. As we pursue these opportunities, we are looking to deepen our risk expertise and strengthen our capabilities accordingly. This role offers the opportunity to be part of that journey and to play a central role in building a best-in-class operational risk function.
Your Core Responsibilities
- Serve as the Risk team’s primary contact for operational risk, including execution controls, incident management, policy, ad-hoc risk assessments, and post-mortems.
- Build deep knowledge of IMC’s automated trading ecosystem across APAC markets to identify, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
- Own the framework for automated pre- and post-trade risk checks that protect the firm from operational failures, including limit policies, sensibility reviews, and ongoing monitoring and reporting.
- Analyse incidents, identify trends across desks and systems and drive improvements to prevent recurrence.
- Develop and implement local operational risk frameworks aligned with global policies and industry standards.
- Review new trading strategies before deployment, ensuring controls, monitoring, and documentation are in place.
- Maintain and enhance the operational risk policy framework, ensuring documentation remains accurate and up to date.
- Build and improve dashboards, reporting, and monitoring tools to strengthen risk visibility and response capabilities.
Your Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Approximately 5 years of experience in an operational or market risk role, ideally within a proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, or electronic market maker.
- Direct experience with automated trading systems and a good understanding of how software and hardware failures translate into trading risk.
- Familiarity with the APAC trading landscape, including exchange microstructure and market conventions across key markets such as Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, and China.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to independently query data, build monitoring tools, and automate reporting. Comfortable using AI tools to support automation and reporting tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present risk findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure trading environment, with the ability to prioritise effectively and act decisively.
- Entrepreneurial, self-starter willing to take initiative. Ability to carry projects through from ideation to completion.
