Lead Macro Analyst

About the role

IMC’s Macro Analyst team provides traders with market-moving insights and trading ideas across global macro and volatility markets. As the Lead Macro Analyst, you will be based in Amsterdam and oversee a team focused on generating actionable analysis and trading strategies across European equity index volatility and related markets. You will collaborate closely with IMC traders to identify opportunities, manage a portfolio of macro-driven positions, and ensure IMC remains at the forefront of interpreting key economic, political, and market events.

Your Core Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the European Macro Analyst team in developing trading ideas and options strategies on equity index volatilities, spreads, and related financial instruments.
  • Manage the team’s PnL portfolio, focused on global events, European market themes, and major macro headlines.
  • Develop and maintain scenario analyses around key market-moving events such as economic data releases, central bank meetings, national budgets, elections, and geopolitical developments.
  • Provide traders with timely insights and actionable updates on what’s driving markets during trading hours and in out-of-hours futures sessions.
  • React quickly to unexpected market events, generating scenarios and strategies to capture emerging opportunities.
  • Ensure strong operational coverage and responsiveness to trader needs.
  • Foster collaboration with other IMC analyst teams in Amsterdam, Chicago, Sydney, and Mumbai, sharing insights and best practices.
  • Mentor and develop team members, creating an environment that encourages ownership, innovation, and high-quality output.

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • 5–6+ years of experience at a high-frequency trading firm or leading investment bank, with strong exposure to equities, volatility, and options markets.
  • Deep understanding of European financial markets and the macroeconomic and geopolitical factors driving them.
  • Proven ability to generate actionable trading ideas and manage a portfolio around global and regional market themes.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a collaborative, goal-oriented approach to managing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to engage traders and convey insights clearly and succinctly under time pressure.
  • Calm and analytical under fast-moving market conditions.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a drive for innovation and continuous improvement.
