Location: London

Reports to: Head of ISSB Strategic Affairs

Status: 18month fixed term contract

Job purpose: The ISSB Strategic Affairs Manager supports delivery of the ISSB’s strategic priorities and workplan by leading and managing relationships with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and relevant United Nations (UN) entities, building on established engagements, to develop and operationalise partnership opportunities. The role combines external relationship management with internal coordination, contributing to the ISSB’s positioning and effective delivery. It suits a strategic, diplomatic, and results-oriented professional with strong understanding of MDBs and of the sustainability reporting landscape.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Lead and manage strategic relationships with global and regional MDBs (e.g., World Bank/IFC, ADB, AfDB, EBRD, IDB) and relevant UN entities, building on established engagements, to identify, develop and operationalise partnership opportunities that advance the ISSB’s objectives – spanning adoption and implementation support, capacity building, funding and global visibility – and design and deliver engagement strategies and plans in coordination with relevant IFRS Foundation teams to ensure consistent, high-quality relationship management at all levels.
  • Advance and coordinate ISSB engagement with G20/G7 processes and associated business tracks (B20/B7).
  • Coordinate and support the effective functioning of the ISSB’s Sustainability Consultative Committee (SCC), including agenda planning, meeting preparation and follow-up.
  • Draft and support preparation of briefing materials, presentations and strategy papers for ISSB and IFRS Foundation leadership, in close collaboration with the Head of ISSB Strategic Affairs.
  • Contribute to strategic reporting and team coordination across Strategic Affairs, including supporting internal coordination mechanisms and maintaining stakeholder tracking.
  • Represent the ISSB Strategic Affairs team in relevant cross-Foundation meetings when required.
  • Undertake other ad hoc tasks as required in a fast-paced strategic affairs role.

Key qualifications and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in managing complex international relationships, engaging multilateral stakeholders, within a global complex organisation.
  • Strong understanding of multilateral development banks (MDBs), with demonstrated experience engaging them and knowledge of how they operate.
  • Proven credibility and diplomatic skills to engage senior stakeholders and align diverse internal and external perspectives around shared objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: active listening, ability to synthesise input, and accurately capture and summarise feedback.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong, rigorous, execution mindset; able to run multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs under time pressure.
  • Innovative mindset and experience establishing tools or processes that support effective internal coordination and alignment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Presents effectively to internal and external audiences and competently manages questions and comments.
  • High standards of professionalism and discretion; willingness to travel internationally as required.
  • Commitment to the IFRS Foundation’s mission and familiarity with global sustainability reporting developments (including the ISSB’s role).
