This position is based in Munich, Germany, with at least 2 days at the office.

 

We are seeking an experienced and business-oriented Associate General Counsel (f/m/d) to serve as IDnow’s lead legal counsel for all commercial contracting matters and a key advisor on data privacy. This role will report directly to the General Counsel and play a critical role in supporting IDnow’s continued growth across Europe and beyond.

 

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Transactions & Contracting

  • Lead the drafting, negotiation, and management of a wide array of commercial agreements, including mission-critical client agreements, reseller, partner and vendor contracts.
  • Develop and maintain standardized templates, playbooks, and negotiation guidelines to streamline contracting processes.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Finance, Product, Revenue, and other cross-functional teams to align contractual terms with business objectives.
  • Advise on privacy matters, including data processing agreements, international data transfers, and privacy risk assessments.
  • Support organizational compliance with applicable laws, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, particularly as they relate to company products, services, and business operations..
  • Monitor and interpret relevant legal and regulatory developments in commercial law, data privacy, and digital identity that may impact the company.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with internal teams, including IT Security & Product, to support strategic initiatives and ensure contracts, data privacy, and digital identity practices are aligned with business goals and legal obligations.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and compliance matters, fostering awareness and adherence across the organization.

Policy & Process Development

  • Develop and enhance contract templates, negotiation playbooks, privacy notices, and compliance protocols.
  • Drive operational efficiency within legal processes by implementing best practices and process improvements.

Support GC on Broader Legal Projects

  • Assist the General Counsel with corporate governance, compliance programs, and other strategic legal initiatives as needed.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Qualified to practice law in Germany or another EU jurisdiction (including UK).
  • 10+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally gained in a combination of top-tier law firm and in-house roles at tech, SaaS, or digital identity companies.
  • Long background in commercial contract law and negotiation, with a strong ability of managing commercial transactions of all shapes and sizes.
  • Strong knowledge of European data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and regulatory frameworks surrounding digital identity.
  • Ability to balance risk and business objectives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Hands-on, solution-oriented professional with a high degree of personal accountability.
  • Practical, business-oriented mindset with acute attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Fluent in English
  • Advanced in either German or French. In any case, a good knowledge of German is preferred. Knowledge of French is a strong plus
