Assistant Manager - Compliance UK

Role Overview

The Assistant Compliance Manager will support the Compliance Manager in maintaining high standards of regulatory compliance, risk management, quality assurance and audit readiness across the business.

This role will have a strong people-management and operational compliance focus, with responsibility for managing Team Leaders and their teams, overseeing compliance processes, supporting audits, conducting risk assessments and ensuring policies and procedures are consistently followed.

The role has been upgraded from Team Leader to Assistant Manager to attract higher-calibre talent with proven leadership, auditing and healthcare compliance experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Management

  • Manage Team Leaders and their teams in the day-to-day running of the department.

  • Lead, motivate and develop a diverse, multi-level team.

  • Monitor team performance against agreed targets and quality standards.

  • Demonstrate a proven ability to take a team from point A to point B, delivering measurable improvements.

  • Candidate must have previously managed a minimum of 8 people.

2. Regulatory Monitoring & Reporting

  • Keep up to date with relevant UK healthcare regulations, regulatory changes and industry requirements.

  • Assist the Compliance Manager with regulatory filings, reporting and submissions.

  • Ensure regulatory requirements are effectively communicated and implemented across relevant teams.

3. Risk & Compliance Controls

  • Assist with regular risk assessments and identify potential compliance gaps.

  • Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements where required.

  • Support the identification, investigation and resolution of compliance risks.

  • Ensure appropriate controls are maintained and followed consistently.

4. Candidate Onboarding & Due Diligence

  • Review candidate files and compliance documentation as part of the onboarding process.

  • Conduct and oversee appropriate due diligence checks.

  • Support and enhance existing compliance procedures and processes.

  • Ensure candidate files meet required regulatory and internal standards.

  • Conduct enhanced due diligence where required.

5. Audit & Quality Assurance

  • Manage and coordinate compliance audit processes.

  • Support the Compliance Manager in planning, conducting and following up on audits.

  • Work closely with Registration, Maintenance, Quality Assurance and Audit teams.

  • Identify areas for improvement and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.

  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, accuracy and audit readiness.

6. Policies & Procedures

  • Maintain and regularly review internal compliance policies and procedures.

  • Ensure policies remain aligned with current regulatory requirements.

  • Support communication and implementation of policy changes.

  • Ensure staff understand and follow relevant compliance procedures.

7. Support, Advisory & Training

  • Act as a point of contact for compliance-related queries across the business.

  • Provide guidance and practical compliance advice to internal stakeholders.

  • Deliver or support compliance training for staff.

  • Promote a strong culture of compliance, quality and accountability.

8. Complaints & Escalations

  • Support the management and investigation of compliance-related complaints.

  • Ensure complaints and escalations are handled appropriately and within required timescales.

  • Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to prevent future concerns.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a compliance team leadership or management role.

  • Strong experience in compliance auditing and audit processes.

  • Previous experience managing at least 8 people.

  • Demonstrable experience managing diverse, multi-level teams.

  • Experience within the UK healthcare compliance sector is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with quality assurance, risk management and regulatory compliance.

  • Strong experience in team performance management and reporting.

Knowledge

  • Good understanding of UK healthcare industry regulations and regulatory frameworks.

  • Strong knowledge of compliance and audit procedures.

  • Understanding of risk assessment, internal controls and quality assurance processes.

  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical business processes.
