About the Role

As a Staff Engineering Operations Specialist at Ocado Technology, you’ll play a key role in driving the successful deployment, optimisation, and continuous improvement of engineering operations across our global engineering operations. This role is central to our mission of delivering operational excellence through technical expertise, collaboration, and a practical, value-driven approach.

You’ll act as a trusted technical advisor to our operational sites and partners, leading readiness assessments, site enablement activities, and supporting smooth transitions into live operations. You’ll champion continuous improvement across asset performance, machinery uptime, and operational efficiency, while also contributing to the rollout of new products and processes.

Collaboration will be at the heart of your work, building strong relationships across engineering, product, and service teams to solve complex technical challenges, share best practices, and drive long-term capability building. This role offers the opportunity to make a real global impact, with international travel and strategic influence across Ocado’s engineering teams worldwide.

Consider this secondment your chance to "try before you buy". You'll gain invaluable insight into the role, helping you decide if it's your next career move and positioning you well for future permanent opportunities.

About you

  • You have experience in Ocado Engineering Operations management or Development Engineering, ideally with exposure to site launches, cross-functional stakeholder engagement, asset management, or continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced or safety-critical setting
  • You’re a strong communicator who actively listens, adapts your message to different audiences, and builds trust across engineering and product teams.
  • You demonstrate empathy, humility, and collaboration—working effectively across departments to deliver the best outcomes for the wider organisation.
  • You have broad or deep technical expertise in automation or engineering operations, with experience supporting technical decision-making in fast-paced, safety-critical environments.
  • You take a logical, structured approach to problem-solving and thrive in ambiguous or rapidly changing situations.
  • You’re proactive, continuously learning, and passionate about mentoring others, driving improvement, and striving for excellence.

If you have any questions about the role or application process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Etienne Van Der Kuip — he’ll happily share more of an insight into the opportunity!
