Role Overview

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Management Accountant will play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and insightful financial information that supports strategic decision-making across the business.

Offering a competitive salary of £40,000 - £45,000, plus up to a 15% performance bonus, this role will support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, regulatory reporting and financial control activities, while ensuring compliance with corporate governance, statutory and regulatory requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant seeking to develop their commercial finance experience within a dynamic and growing organisation.

Role Responsibilities

  • Produce monthly management accounts, including gross margin analysis, operating expenses, balance sheet control account reconciliations and capex reporting.
  • Prepare and post month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and other accounting adjustments, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of monthly reporting.
  • Prepare the monthly Board reporting pack, ensuring accurate, timely and insightful financial information is provided for review by senior management and the Board.
  • Deliver monthly management information tailored to individual departments, including supporting budget holders through the provision of financial analysis and performance reporting. Provide financial support to the wider business, including assistance with operational and commercial queries.
  • Prepare audit deliverables and supporting schedules for external auditors, responding to audit queries and coordinating information requests to support the successful completion of statutory and other audits.
  • Coordinate the annual budget process and periodic reforecasts.
  • Support the modelling of short and long-term cash flow forecasts, banking funding requirements, interest calculations, and monitoring and reporting of banking covenant compliance.
  • Prepare and review VAT returns, Climate Change Levy (CCL) returns and regulatory reporting submissions, ensuring compliance with our statutory, regulatory and licence obligations.
  • Review outputs from Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and banking activities, investigating variances, identifying issues and supporting the maintenance of a robust financial control environment.
  • Support and provide guidance to junior members of the finance team, assisting with the review of transactional processes, reconciliations and control activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of financial controls, reporting processes and data integrity across the finance function.
  • Undertake any other duties or special projects as required by the Financial Controller.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria

  • Fully qualified member of CAI / ICAEW / CIMA or ACCA
  • Recent and relevant experience within a financial environment
  • Advanced IT and systems skills, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

In addition, candidates should possess:

  • Experience producing reports, analysis and management information
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A commercial mindset and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of Sage 200
  • Finance experience gained in industry
  • Big 4 Accountancy trained
