The Role

As Head of Projects, you will lead the Project Management function across Product & Technology, ensuring the successful delivery of strategic change initiatives and complex product development programmes.

Reporting to the Vice President, Portfolio and Programmes, you will provide leadership across project delivery, resource management and governance, enabling teams to deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes in a hybrid Agile environment. Working closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Programme Leaders and business stakeholders, you'll ensure delivery commitments are realistic, risks are proactively managed and portfolio priorities are translated into achievable plans.

This is a highly visible leadership role, responsible for developing a high-performing team of Project Managers while continuously improving delivery capability, governance and operational excellence across Product & Technology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Project Management function across Product & Technology, driving consistent, high-quality delivery across a portfolio of strategic initiatives.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and performance management for Project Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing delivery culture.
  • Oversee delivery planning, governance, risks, dependencies and milestone management across multiple programmes and projects.
  • Own resource management and workforce planning, ensuring delivery capacity aligns with business priorities.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Portfolio Governance and business leaders to improve delivery predictability and execution.
  • Champion delivery practices that balance Agile ways of working with effective governance and organisational commitments.
  • Develop and maintain delivery metrics, reporting and performance indicators to support informed decision-making.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for delivery risks, resource conflicts and organisational blockers.
  • Drive continuous improvement in project management standards, methodologies and delivery capability across the organisation.
  • Build strong relationships across Product, Technology, Editorial, Commercial, Data and Corporate functions to enable successful delivery outcomes.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience leading project delivery teams within complex technology, digital product or transformation environments.
  • Proven experience managing Project Managers or multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile, hybrid and project-based delivery methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex business and technology change initiatives.
  • Experience in resource management, workforce planning and delivery capacity forecasting.
  • Strong understanding of project, programme and portfolio management disciplines.
  • Experience establishing delivery governance frameworks, planning processes and performance management approaches.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience working within complex matrix organisations.
  • Professional project management certification (such as APM, PRINCE2, AgilePM, CSM or equivalent).

Desirable

  • Experience within media, publishing, digital subscription or technology-led organisations.
  • Experience working within portfolio management environments.
  • Knowledge of Lean delivery approaches, product operating models and modern delivery practices.
