Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

We believe in the power of unique perspectives and want all voices in our organisation to be heard, respected and valued. A supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves and operate to their full potential. We are committed to removing barriers for everyone, with a focus on addressing those faced by underrepresented groups.

The role

Ignites Asia is the Financial Times' news service for professionals working in the asset management industry across Asia. Our readers rely on us for exclusive reporting and timely news and analysis that help them make informed business decisions.

We are looking for an experienced financial journalist to join our Hong Kong-based team as Deputy Editor. This is primarily a reporting role with additional editing responsibilities, offering a senior reporter the opportunity to focus on producing original journalism while helping shape our daily publication.

The successful candidate will cover one of Asia's most important financial sectors at a time of significant change. Asset managers are navigating shifting regulatory reform, private market growth and technological disruption. We are looking for a journalist who can develop strong industry contacts, break exclusive stories and explain the developments that matter most to our readers.

Alongside reporting, the Deputy Editor will edit stories, help maintain editorial standards and publish the daily newsletter in the Managing Editor's absence. The role requires strong news judgement, excellent writing skills and the ability to work confidently to daily deadlines.

Based in Hong Kong, you will play an integral role in an enthusiastic, ambitious and supportive team of journalists, helping produce the daily news service our readers rely on.

Key responsibilities

  • Cover a beat and produce around four original stories each week.

  • Develop strong sources across the asset management industry.

  • Edit colleagues' copy and help maintain editorial standards.

  • Publish Ignites Asia in the absence of the Managing Editor.

  • Travel occasionally within Asia for reporting assignments.

Required skills and experience

  • Proven experiences in covering asset management, financial markets or a related sector.

  • A track record of breaking news and producing original journalism.

  • Editing experience and strong news judgement.

  • Ability to work accurately under daily deadlines.

  • Strong contacts across asset managers, fund distributors, institutional investors or regulators are an advantage.

  • Willingness to travel within Asia.

  • A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for news journalism.
