Build a newsworthy career at the FT.
The role
The Financial Times is seeking an experienced corporate and business reporter for the new role of Asia Business Correspondent.
Taking a continent-wide perspective, we aim to break news across a wide range of sectors.
The successful candidate will be an energetic, entrepreneurial reporter and accomplished writer who can work with reporters across the FT network to produce big scoops, compelling interviews and agenda-setting analysis on Asian companies and business.
To land great stories and elevate our coverage above rivals, this person must have — or be able to build quickly — a rich contacts book, comprising CEOs and chairs, bankers, lawyers, lobbyists and other advisers, as well as institutional investors and wealthy individuals.
This role complements our network of business reporters across Asia, adding expertise and firepower while bringing a cross-border and thematic approach to our reporting. The region is huge and diverse — there are many different Asias — so the correspondent will need flexibility and imagination to make the job work. Different countries may be more or less accessible because of challenges with visas and languages.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in corporate reporting and the confidence and experience to pile into the biggest Asian business story of the moment.
Regular travel is expected. This reporter will be expected to contribute widely to the editorial output, including videos, blogs, and potentially commentary, as well as participating in the FT’s live conferences and events.
We expect the job to be based in Hong Kong, the FT’s hub in Asia. Hong Kong is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Asia and offers a high quality of life.
Your skills
You will have proven skills as a source-building, scoop-getting corporate or financial reporter. Editors will be looking to you for the exciting, original stories that the FT thrives on.
You will be able to write for all parts of the website and newspaper, from strong spot news to deft analysis on a range of subjects; there is opportunity to write for FT Weekend as well, if you have the aptitude and the interest.
You will also have the ability to conceptualise and deliver compelling stories from a beat that, by its nature, will not have a lot of diary news that comes along without you looking for it.
A collegiate approach is vital: you will need to work closely with colleagues around the region as well as correspondents in London and New York. Good communication skills are important, too. Editors will want to hear regular story pitches and for you to deliver on what you promise.
Skills in Asian languages would be helpful but are not required for the role.
Please submit your application by the end of the day, Sunday May 3 2026.
In your cover letter, we encourage you to share your pitch on where you think you can have an impact and how you would approach the role. Any examples of previous work which demonstrate an ability to write thematic, cross-border stories would be advantageous.
The use of AI
Original reporting, great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism. Our readers trust us to produce quality journalism that is accurate, fair and insightful. This is why FT editorial staff do not by default use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create other reader-facing content. For specific and pre-approved cases, AI can be harnessed for certain tasks, such as assisting data research for investigations.
We expect applicants to the FT newsroom to refrain from using AI in their test submissions, and any written materials should be a genuine reflection of their own knowledge, skills and experiences. We encourage candidates only to employ AI as a tool to help with research and interview readiness for a role.
Candidates should be aware that the use of AI throughout the application process is monitored to ensure a fair and transparent hiring process for all.
Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
We believe in the power of unique perspectives and want all voices in our organisation to be heard, respected and valued. A supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves and operate to their full potential. We are committed to removing barriers for everyone, with a focus on addressing those faced by underrepresented groups.
What’s in it for you? Our benefits
Our benefits vary by location but we are committed to providing best-in-class perks across all our offices. These include generous annual leave, medical cover, inclusive parental leave packages, subsidised gym memberships and opportunities to give back to the community. Full details of our benefits are available here.
FT Newsroom staff are expected to work onsite a minimum of four days per week, subject to role requirements and regular review. While flexible working requests will be considered, not all patterns are suitable for Editorial roles.
Accessibility
We are a disability confident employer and Valuable 500 signatory.
Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments/personalisation as part of the application process or to enable you to attend an interview. If you would like to discuss your requirements or have any questions, email talent@ft.com and a member of our team will be happy to help.
