About FT Specialist

A key part of the business, providing significant revenue and contribution to the FT, is Specialist Titles (part of the wider FT Group Products portfolio). 

FT Specialist brings together a portfolio of niche digital publications, including ones with more than 160 years of tradition.

 

As a Senior Data Analyst in FT Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering analyses, dashboards and predictive models,  as well as supporting improvements to data quality and team processes.
You will work within the FT Specialist Data & Analytics team, collaborating with other data professionals and colleagues from Specialist Titles and the wider Data & Analytics function to deliver impactful outcomes for our customers and business teams.


Projects may include developing new suites of dashboards, conducting transformational analyses, building predictive and descriptive models, and integrating new data sources into existing analytics and BI reporting. Many initiatives focus on customer or audience acquisition, retention, and engagement, supporting the long-term strategic goal of operational growth.

 

What you’ll work on

  • Work with a wide variety of data sets, applying strong business acumen to shape and contextualise findings.
  • Provide robust analysis and actionable insights to help the business extract maximum value from analytics data.
  • Build and maintain accurate, reliable, and user-friendly BI dashboards.
  • Deliver analytical support to address strategic business questions and inform decision-making.
  • Stay up to date with new technical and business developments to understand their impact on analytics and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate closely with data and tracking engineers to continuously enhance data quality and structure of data used in analysis and reporting.
  • Work with product managers, marketing, editorial and other collaborators to identify business needs and clarify expected outcomes.
  • Extracts the true value and underlying business need from requests, including deciphering hidden user needs.

 

Often used technology stacks and tools:

  • AWS Redshift, Looker, Python, Bloomreach, Snowplow or similar tools

 

Essential skills and experience

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills - particularly strong in presenting complex data and analytical findings to non-technical audiences 
  • Advanced SQL skills and proven experience analysing and combining large data sets 
  • Experience with Looker or a similar BI tool. Passion for data visualisation & familiarity with techniques.
  • Commercial approach - ability to understand the commercial imperatives behind the data needs
  • Ability to extract the true value and business need from a business request.
  • Thorough, inquisitive, innovative, ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking with the ability to extract the true value and business need from a business request.

 

Desirable skills and experience 

  • Experience with Python for data analysis
  • Experience in predictive modelling
