About the role:
The Editorial Writer is a key contributor to our editorial operations, helping deliver accurate, relevant, and high-impact content to our readers. Our team of writers evaluate information from a wide range of sources and distill it into focused, concise pieces aligned with our audience's interests.
Editorial Assistants supply context by referencing prior reporting and institutional knowledge where appropriate. They collaborate closely with editors and are encouraged to be proactive—independently identifying content opportunities and fulfilling assignments with efficiency and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
News Gathering & Editorial Judgment
- Supervise news outlets, press releases, and industry announcements to identify stories relevant to our target readers.
- Locate and cite primary sources such as corporate disclosures, government documents, or regulatory filings where applicable.
- Integrate background and context from previous reporting or internal resources to improve story clarity and depth.
- Consistently produce the required number of summaries following the established format and standards.
Writing & Standards:
- Follow established journalistic principles to ensure all content is fair, factual, and accurately sourced.
- Accurately credit original sources and align with copyright law, FT and FT Specialist U.S. editorial guidelines, and internal AI use policies.
- Deliver polished, well-structured copy that adheres to AP and FT Specialist U.S. style.
- Manage time optimally to meet deadlines and communicate proactively about any delays or challenges.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related discipline—or equivalent hands-on experience in news, editorial, or content creation roles.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of professional experience in a newsroom, editorial team, or similar environment.
- Strong editorial judgment with the ability to identify stories of value to specialized or business-focused audiences.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, including familiarity with AP style and a consistent, reader-friendly tone.
- Skilled in verifying sources, accurate attribution, and compliance with copyright and ethical standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities on tight deadlines.
Preferred
- Experience in media monitoring, content curation, or news summary writing.
- Familiarity with FT and FT Specialist U.S. editorial guidelines.
- Proficiency with newsroom tools such as CMS platforms, RSS feeds, and collaborative platforms (e.g., Trello, Slack).
- Awareness of evolving best practices in digital journalism, including responsible AI usage and media ethics.
