FT Alphaville is hiring!
Alphaville, the FT’s finance and markets blog, has an opening for a writer. We are happy to consider candidates currently based and eligible to work in either London or New York.
We are a blog in spirit and substance, so we want people who can write fluently and conversationally. Professional journalistic experience is a bonus, but not crucial. What counts for more are strong interests in economics, finance, investing and corporate life and the ability to write about them in a compelling, lively way. You’ll have to love deep research of geeky subjects that you’ll explain to an intelligent, demanding audience.
Writing is the core requirement but, if you can bring other skills or talents to the job, tell us about them. Alphaville has kept evolving since its launch in 2006, You’ll have an opportunity to shape what comes next. We already host regular reader events on both sides of the Atlantic and run a merch shop, but there’s lots more that we could do.
In return, we offer more freedom and fun than anything else in financial media. Your readers will be smart and engaged, your colleagues will be friendly, and you'll receive all the usual FT benefits (hello, six weeks of holiday and a sabbatical every four years).
Please submit your application by the end of the day, Wednesday 9th April 2025. To apply, please upload a CV, a brief cover letter and a short unpublished FTAV-style post (no more than 500 words).
The use of AI
Original reporting, great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism. Our readers trust us to produce quality journalism that is accurate, fair and insightful. This is why FT editorial staff do not use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create other reader-facing content. For specific and pre-approved cases, AI can be harnessed for certain tasks, such as assisting data research for investigations.
We expect applicants to the FT newsroom to refrain from using AI in their test submissions, and any written materials should be a genuine reflection of their own knowledge, skills and experiences. We encourage candidates only to employ AI as a tool to help with research and interview readiness for a role.
Candidates should be aware that the use of AI throughout the application process is monitored to ensure a fair and transparent hiring process for all.
