The role

HTSI, the Financial Times multi award-winning luxury lifestyle magazine, is looking for an Art Director to work alongside the Creative Director on the magazine's cross-platform art desk. You will work closely with the art team and Picture Editor in spearheading the visual direction of the magazine, and its digital strategy. You will have demonstrable experience at a similar level on a quality consumer magazine.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate the vision of the editor and creative director to the art desk, and execute that vision to the highest possible standard.
  • Collaborate with the art team, making sure editorial production duties are delegated fairly throughout the team, and to ensure the smooth production of each issue of HTSI and its translation online.
  • Commission photography, illustration, animation and video where required, and work with the picture desk to coordinate the visuals of each issue.
  • Liaise closely with off-site production houses to ensure best reproduction and image quality.
  • Help steer the creative direction of the magazine, developing new templates, bringing fresh ideas, and helping to execute the magazine.

Your skills:

  • Significant demonstrable experience in magazine design, for print and web.
  • A dedication to evolve a successful magazine and digital design format
  • Experience at conceptualising and art directing illustration, animation, and portrait and still life photography
  • An expansive list of relevant photographers, illustrators and animators
  • Excellent organisational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Experience in digital strategy and execution
  • Experience at sending a magazine to press, and working closely with a repro house.

HTSI has 39 print issues a year and daily online content on the ft.com website. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Please submit your application by the end of the day, Tuesday 28th January 2025.

The use of AI

Original reporting, great writing and intelligent commentary lie at the heart of FT journalism.  Our readers trust us to produce quality journalism that is accurate, fair and insightful. This is why FT editorial staff do not use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to write articles or create other reader-facing content. For specific and pre-approved cases, AI can be harnessed for certain tasks, such as assisting data research for investigations.

We expect applicants to the FT newsroom to refrain from using AI in their test submissions, and any written materials should be a genuine reflection of their own knowledge, skills and experiences. We encourage candidates only to employ AI as a tool to help with research and interview readiness for a role.

Candidates should be aware that the use of AI throughout the application process is monitored to ensure a fair and transparent hiring process for all.
