The Role

FT Live’s Partner Events team produces specific, high-level events for a diverse portfolio of clients, combining the influence of the Financial Times with compelling event experiences. The Head of Project Management will have a central role in this team, coordinating intricate event projects from concept to completion, and ensuring that each event provides impactful engagement for our clients and audiences.

This role entails leading a team of 7 project managers to coordinate multiple events across sectors and formats. You will be responsible for managing resources, schedules, and budgets, addressing challenges, and improving processes to achieve better results. By improving relationships with team members and customers, you will ensure our events not only meet expectations but also contribute to maintaining positive customer relationships and retention.

The key to success in this position is the ability to consistently deliver projects on time and in an organized manner, focusing on client needs and continuously striving for process and performance improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Guide and motivate the project management team to achieve event goals and accomplish project achievements. Conduct performance reviews and support team development.
  • Project Oversight: Manage a portfolio of complex projects, optimising resources and team allocations based on project needs and individual skills.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with sales and client teams from project briefing to post-event analysis, ensuring seamless client onboarding and ongoing updates.
  • Collaborating with sales to evaluate event viability, establish goals, and outline responsibilities and timelines customized to client requirements.
  • Operational Excellence: Troubleshoot issues in real-time, manage project budgets, track achievements, and compile post-event reports with findings and analysis.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to developing project management standards, tools, and templates to strengthen team capabilities and customer happiness.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 6+ years of B2B account or project management experience in the events sector.
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring teams to achieve goals.
  • Strong customer focus, with an ability to build lasting relationships and deliver outstanding event experiences.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication abilities, both written and verbal, with a talent for articulating project updates clearly and confidently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Asana, or similar project management tools, with a strong grasp of project management methodologies.
  • A proactive approach that shows initiative, analytical thinking, and enthusiasm.
