Role Overview:
The object of this role will be to lead a small team of engineers and experimental physicists to perform design of experiment for prototype photonic integrated circuits, drive proper laboratory practices and maintenance, support and manage photonic experimental work, procure precision instrumentation, interface with design, production, and quantum science team members, perform data analysis, and coordinate laboratory activity to meet deliverable deadlines.
· Optics laboratory experimental practices and instrumentation oversight including cryogenics, laser systems, free-space optical setups, benchtop integrated photonic systems, and various supporting instruments.
· Test, measurement, and characterization of photonic devices, including setup build-up and data acquisition and analysis.
· Instrumentation procurement, laboratory documentation standardization, and precision equipment management.
· Technical leadership for laboratory activities and project scope management.
· Working in a multidisciplinary team with various engineers and physicists.
· Interface with suppliers.
· Report results at internal meetings.
Requirements/background:
· Preferably a Masters or Ph.D. in a relevant applied sciences field, focused on specifically an experimental approach to photonics or low-temperature physics.
· Extensive hands-on experience with cryogenic and optical lab equipment, such as lasers, cryostats, photodiode arrays, and tabletop optical components.
· Technical expertise in proper laboratory practices, experimental design, and results presentation and dissemination.
· Methodical and systematic approach to applied science.
· Strong technical writing skills
· Pro-active, accurate and independent style of working.
· Proficiency in English language (verbal and written).
