What you will do:
You will work together with the Modelling & Control team, which include other control, battery, and thermal engineers on implementing different software features for the battery pack. This would involve basic elements of a battery pack such as State of Charge but you will also be working on thermal control, charge strategies, etc. As a team we provide the tools such that the battery can perform in ideal conditions and optimize the use by our customers. As a control engineer you can apply your knowledge of state estimation, model identification, control strategies and optimization to different applications to achieve these goals.
For the upcoming period we are planning to roll out several of these features on our new product which you will be working on in collaboration with the rest of the project team. After implementation we will collaborate with the sales engineer team to also make sure that the features will be properly used and implemented by our customers.
Your key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and implement control algorithms for battery management systems used in industrial applications like excavators, cranes, tractors, etc.
- Tackle the challenges and limitations of running control on embedded systems, such as real-time performance, memory constraints, and power management
- Collaborate closely with a young and dynamic team of electrical, mechanical, thermal, battery and software engineers, ensuring the seamless integration of control systems with battery hardware.
- Conduct system modeling, simulation, and validation to ensure accurate performance predictions and optimization, considering the constraints of embedded platforms.
- Develop and maintain real-time embedded control software that meets both performance and safety requirements.
- Participate in testing, debugging, and validating of control systems, emphasizing embedded system challenges and teamwork.
- Engage actively in team meetings and brainstorming sessions, sharing your ideas and expertise to drive innovation.
- Provide innovative ideas and concept in control engineering, embedded systems, and battery technologies, and bring fresh ideas to the team.
Requirements & qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a relevant position.
- Experience in designing and implementing control systems for battery management systems, is .
- Hands-on mentality with respect on preparing and performing design and verifications test.
- Proficiency in control system design tools and software, such as MATLAB, Simulink, etc. Experience with MATLAB Embedded coder would be preferred.
- Extensive experience with real-time embedded systems and microcontroller programming, with a deep understanding of their limitations and challenges.
- Knowledge of battery technologies, including lithium-ion batteries, state estimation techniques, and thermal management systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team to overcome challenges.
- Strong communication skills, with fluency in English (Dutch is a plus), and a collaborative mindset.
- Experience with model-based design and simulation methods that could be relevant for battery systems.
- Knowledge of CAN bus communication protocols and diagnostics, would be preferred.
