ESG Specialist
Ebury Madrid Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home per week
As an ESG Specialist at Ebury, you will play a pivotal role in owning, defining and leading our sustainability and responsible business practices agenda. You will collaborate cross-functionally to develop, implement, and monitor ESG strategies and initiatives across our global offices.
What you’ll do
Environmental Stewardship:
- Carbon Accounting: Own the corporate carbon footprint inventory, covering Scopes 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 streams.
- Energy Audits: Support energy audit reports (e.g., UK ESOS, Spanish Royal Decree 56/2016)
- Sustainable Operations: Drive and implement the global green offices practices action plan and monitor workplace environmental health check performance.
- Net-Zero, Decarbonization & Offsetting: Lead the corporate decarbonization and net-zero strategy, managing the procurement of high-quality carbon credits to support long-term climate goals.
Social Responsibility:
- Workforce Well-being: Design and oversee comprehensive physical, mental, and financial well-being programs to foster a supportive and healthy workplace.
- Employee Resource Groups: Sponsor, guide, budget, and oversee voluntary, employee-led groups (Ebury Women's Network, Ebury Pride Network, Ebury Military Network, Ebury Sports Network), ensuring their initiatives align with broader corporate ESG goals.
- Ethics & Community: Support corporate ethics and accountability frameworks and implement the global volunteer program in coordination with local workplace teams to drive positive local impact.
- Impact Measurement: Define, track, and report key social performance indicators to leadership.
Good Governance:
- Strategy & Frameworks: Develop and implement the corporate ESG strategy, materiality assessments, policies, and governance frameworks aligned with business priorities.
- Strategic Integration: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and senior leadership to integrate ESG considerations into core decision-making processes, business strategies, and innovation opportunities.
- Reporting: Support the publication of the annual ESG report, including the group's annual statement.
- Risk Management: Enhance the integration of ESG and climate-related risk management across operations.
- Performance & Budget Tracking: Monitor, analyse, and define ESG performance metrics and targets, handling budget management and tracking progress toward our sustainability goals.
Purpose-led & Business Opportunities:
- Purpose-Led Strategy: Integrate social, financial, and digital inclusion into Ebury’s core business strategy to drive sustainable development and long-term societal impact.
- Inclusive Partnerships: Manage strategic partnerships (e.g., digital talent programs) that advance inclusion while identifying opportunities to weave these initiatives into our commercial pipeline.
- Business Alignment: Partner with business verticals and business development teams to demonstrate the commercial value of our purpose-led agenda, connecting ESG impact to market growth strategies.
Data, Reporting & Assurance:
- Data Ownership: Own ESG data collection, data validation, and carbon accounting methodologies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure corporate readiness, maintain clear audit trails, and support independent assurance processes for upcoming regulatory frameworks, specifically the EU CSRD, UK SDS, and SDR.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Inquiries: Manage incoming ESG-related requests and questionnaires from clients, suppliers, and investors.
- Transparency: Engage with external stakeholders, including investors, regulatory bodies, and community organisations, to enhance transparency and accountability in our ESG disclosures.
- Commercial Support: Support RFPs and due diligence queries, aligning cross-functional responses related to ESG.
Internal Communications & Culture:
- Awareness: Own ESG communications targeting leadership and employees, driving company-wide engagement and sustainability awareness.
- Touchpoints: Plan and support communication touchpoints across global corporate and audiences via webinars, global meetings, and internal newsletters.
- Enablement: Provide continuous guidance, training, and support to colleagues across the organisation to foster a deeply rooted culture of sustainability and ethical conduct.
What you’ll need
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, business administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certification in sustainability or ESG is preferred.
- Experience: 4+ years of experience in ESG management, sustainability consulting, corporate social responsibility, or a related field.
- Framework Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ESG frameworks, standards, and reporting guidelines, such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, SDGs, IFRS, ISSB, EU CSRD, UK SDS, UK SDR, and the GHG Protocol.
- Project Management: Strong program and project management skills, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional workflows and track initiatives to successful execution.
- Data & Analytics: Robust analytical skills and proficiency in data management, reporting tools, and sustainability software platforms.
- Communication: Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to convey complex ESG concepts to diverse audiences.
