Head of Data Infrastructure
About Dwelly
Dwelly — a UK-based, AI-enabled lettings and property management platform, that is growing through a roll-up strategy acquiring estate agencies. The company leverages two arms: i) acquiring existing letting agencies, effectively buying its highly sticky, recurring revenue-type landlords portfolios, and then ii) building a top-notch technology to automate tenant management, payments, and post-rental property maintenance. The company seamlessly integrates AI services to automate all business processes within brick-and-mortar real estate agencies, integrating them into a tech-enabled digital letting platform in two months to radically improve the user experiences and increase efficiency of the business.
We’re a fast-growing, product-focused company, backed by top-tier investors and led by a team with deep experience in real estate, technology, and operations.
Position Summary
We are looking for a Head of Data Infrastructure — someone who thinks in systems, not pipelines — to own and build one of the most critical systems in Dwelly: the infrastructure that enables us to integrate, migrate, and operate data from acquired businesses at scale.
This role directly impacts how fast we can acquire and integrate new agencies and therefore how fast the company grows.
This role combines three critical responsibilities:
- building Dwelly’s long-term data platform
- leading the integration and migration of data from newly acquired estate agencies
- data governance.
This is a foundational leadership role responsible for defining our data architecture, infrastructure, and strategy as we scale the platform and integrate dozens of legacy CRM systems into a single unified system.
You will lead the Data Infrastructure team, including a Data Platform Lead and additional engineers, and work closely with Analytics, Product, Operations, and Finance to ensure that data becomes a core strategic advantage for the company.
While this role remains technically hands-on, your primary responsibility will be to design the architecture, set technical standards, and build a high-performing data engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Migration & CRM Integration
As part of our acquisition strategy, each business we acquire operates on a different real estate CRM system.
Your team will design scalable infrastructure to ingest and normalize data from multiple CRM systems, including:
- Lease contracts
- Landlord and tenant data
- Historical financial ledgers and payment records
- Property management workflows
This will involve:
- Designing modular ingestion frameworks
- Integrating APIs and external databases from major CRM vendors
- Building scalable migration pipelines to onboard newly acquired agencies within days rather than weeks
- Automating “one-click” data onboarding workflows.
2. Data Platform Strategy & Architecture
- Design and maintain a unified data architecture: database schemas, data models, and micro-architecture solutions to ensure scalability and reliability.
- Optimize database performance at all levels: indexing, partitioning, clustering, and tuning configuration parameters.
- Ensure full compliance with GDPR, UK Data Protection Act, and other relevant regulations: data masking, consent management, retention policies, and privacy impact assessments.
3. Data Infrastructure, Analytics Platform & Ops Automations
You will oversee the development of a centralized analytics and data infrastructure used by multiple teams across the company.
This includes:
- Building and scaling our data warehouse on BigQuery
- Designing and maintaining robust ETL/ELT pipelines
- Supporting Data Science production pipelines
- Building scalable infrastructure for large-scale recalculations and ML workflows
- Creating a data platform that enables teams across Operations, Finance, Product, and DS to access reliable insights.
4. Data Governance, Security & Compliance
Ensure that Dwelly’s data infrastructure meets strict regulatory, financial, and privacy compliance requirements as the company scales through acquisitions.
Responsibilities include:
- GDPR and UK Data Protection Act
- Financial data integrity
- Auditability of historical records
- Data retention and deletion policies
- Access control and data masking
5. Team Leadership & Hiring
Build and lead Dwelly’s Data Platform team.
You will:
- Hire and mentor data engineers
- Manage and support the Data Platform Lead
- Define engineering standards and best practices
- Foster a high-performance engineering culture
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, and Engineering leadership
Qualifications & Preferred Background:
- Have extensive experience building and scaling data platforms
- Have designed large-scale data architectures used across multiple teams
- Have experience building complex data pipelines and distributed systems
- Understand the trade-offs between different data technologies (streaming, batch, warehouses, orchestration tools)
- Have solved performance optimization challenges in large-scale data pipelines
- Have strong expertise in data warehouse architecture and data modeling
- Experience designing robust ETL systems that can tolerate inconsistent schemas, missing data, and legacy system quirks
Strong Plus
- Previously led engineering teams
- Built data platforms from scratch in a high-growth startup
- Worked with AI / ML production pipelines
- Built complex pipelines involving computer vision, LLM APIs, or advanced ML workflows
- Designed CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure
Compensation & Benefits:
- The role is fully remote, providing flexibility and enabling seamless collaboration with our geographically distributed team.
- Competitive salary with the potential for equity options based on performance, recognising exceptional contributions to our integration success.
What is it like being a Dwell-er?
Feel free to check out Dwelly Core Principles. That’s about what we believe in, how we operate and make decisions.
What we offer is not a fancy office or a static workplace. Instead, this is solving one of worlds’ most complex problems in the largest consumer industry in the world (residential rentals), to improve the experience for >30% of households (>5M in the UK, and >100M including EU and US) that live in rental homes.
This is about disrupting the largest, most antiquated industry in the world, with one of the strongest operational and technical teams that exist in the UK and the EU. We work hard, and we shoot for extremely ambitious results. But we want people to be proud of what they’ve built and be able to look back and say one day “hell yeah, that was me that did it all”.
- Customer obsession rather than competitive focus
- Passion for invention
- Operational excellence
- Long-term thinking
By applying for this position, you consent to the processing and storage of your personal data for recruitment purposes for up to 365 days, in accordance with our data retention policy and applicable data protection laws.
