The SAF AI Centre (SAIC) is a unit within the Digital and Intelligence Service, established in August 2024, dedicated to addressing SAF's operational data science challenges and AI solutions. As the centre of excellence for Artificial Intelligence, SAIC enhances the operational capabilities of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), driving productivity and efficiency through innovative AI solutions that advance SAF's defence capabilities.

Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a Principal AI Engineer to tackle technically challenging problems in the data science and AI realm, with the opportunity to shape AI solutions that directly impact Singapore's national defence. You should have in-depth understanding of AI/ML and languages like Python, with experience in data structures and algorithms. Additionally, you must possess sufficient industry experience to provide the expertise necessary to ensure that the deployment of such tools is beneficial to the SAF.

What You Will Do

• Support Hd AI Centre to oversee various lines of effort with multifaceted teams including research, product management, and data science
• Lead technical discussions and present complex AI solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across different organisational levels
• Oversee knowledge management efforts for codes and algorithms to enable code reusability and operational efficiency across teams
• Test and recommend new AI/ML solutions to support current and future use cases
• Drive collaboration and partnerships efforts by staying abreast of the latest AI and ML advancements to proactively identify, initiate and promulgate worthwhile engineering projects
• Oversee the curation of skills and courses suitable based on the jobs-skills-proficiency maps, and assessment rubrics

What You Will Bring

• Education in quantitative, scientific and technology disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science and Analytics
• At least 15 years of experience in data science and AI related fields with 8 years of experience in people management
• Deep understanding of AI/ML with hands-on experience working with current AI tools such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Proficient in programming languages like Python and have experience with data structures and algorithms
• Strong leadership traits combined with good planning abilities, negotiation and communication skills to effectively manage multifaceted teams and stakeholder relationships
• Ability to manage complexity and uncertainties whilst balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders across different organisational levels
• Proven ability to multi-task and work effectively under stressful environments while maintaining high standards of technical excellence and strategic oversight
