Platform Engineer (all genders)

Berlin + hybrid

About Us

We are shaping a digital state - together with the administration. As a partner at eye level, we strengthen the administration on its way to driving its own digitalisation. With our own iterative product development and our commitment to better framework conditions, we create the basis for digital solutions that are scalable and effective.

About The Position

Our Platform Team builds and maintains the internal tools, services, and infrastructure that empower our project teams to build and operate scalable and reliable cloud-native applications. As a Platform Engineer, you'll be a technical contributor on this crucial team, applying your expertise to tackle complex challenges and elevate our platform. You'll play a vital role in the design and development of our platform services, and you'll champion cloud engineering, SRE, and DevSecOps principles to ensure platform reliability and security. You'll help us foster a culture of enablement and operational excellence, and drive the creation of developer-centric tools, enabling high-velocity and high-quality software delivery. You can find more information about our Platform Team in our blog post “Security, Standardization, Support: Our Platform Team.”

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to Platform Strategy & Execution: Collaborate with senior engineers and leadership to execute the technical roadmap. Actively participate in team discussions, identify areas for system improvement, and assist in resolving existing technical debt.
  • Build & Maintain Platform Infrastructure: Develop and maintain internal tools and platform services that streamline developer workflows. Manage and update our infrastructure-as-code setups (Terraform, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Helm), and ensure the daily reliability, monitoring, and scaling of our Kubernetes clusters.
  • Support, Document & Enable: Create and maintain clear, up-to-date technical documentation and runbooks. Provide hands-on support to product engineering teams, helping them onboard to platform tools, troubleshoot deployment pipelines, and successfully utilize self-service capabilities.

What You’re Bringing

  • Platform Experience: You have solid hands-on experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or SRE. You have strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure, container orchestration (Kubernetes), Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), GitOps (ArgoCD, Helm, Kustomize), CI/CD systems, and observability stacks.
  • Programming and System Knowledge: You are confident in using at least one relevant programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Java). You also have a good understanding of Linux system administration and networking principles.
  • Product Mindset: You view internal platforms from a customer-centric perspective, focusing on understanding developers’ needs and delivering valuable, user-friendly solutions. You are able to communicate technical concepts clearly and comprehensibly to diverse audiences and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Motivation for Public Administration: You are enthusiastic about the idea of digitizing public administration and want to apply your knowledge to the needs of the public sector. You are fluent in English (C1) and ideally have knowledge of German, as we use both languages in our daily work.
