About the role

 

We are seeking an Engineering Manager - Staff Engineer hybrid with a background in managing data teams and building data products. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to creating project plans and working closely with relevant stakeholders to connect business initiatives with product development. The ideal candidate has an entrepreneurial spirit and will create an environment for the engineering team to be efficient and allow the business to scale.

 

Responsibilities & skills

STRATEGY

  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and vision for the next-generation data platform, bringing a $1.4 Trillion US market into the future
  • Conduct FP&A with the CEO for the use of proceeds planning and assist in technical due diligence for fundraising and with customers
  • Report to the CEO and contribute to the development roadmap, and implementation in project management
  • Considering feasibility and engineering teams' resources, customer-centric prioritization is needed to ensure that business outcomes are properly defined, approved, and delivered
  • With the support of the founding engineer, participate in leadership meetings to set quarterly and annual goals and be accountable for achievements, utilize the Vision Traction Organizer to do so

MANAGEMENT

  • Handle day-to-day delegation and mentorship for a team of data scientists and engineers to serve as the glue between the data source and the product
  • Streamline communication and organization with other team leads to enable growth and differentiation by serving as the steward for data excellence
  • Facilitate development framework (SCRUM, AGILE, ATLAS etc.) for the Excellence team by leading both development and production meetings
  • Build and manage the end-to-end project plan and monitor/report progress to prioritize and measure return on investment in collaboration with the CEO and the founding engineer
  • Manage each individual in the excellence team. Be responsible for hiring, firing, promotions, and performance reviews
  • Establish team SLA and refresh job descriptions of developers

DEVELOPMENT

  • Implement ideas from CEO, customers, and revenue teams in a scalable and user-friendly fashion
  • Generate thought leadership for developers who need guidance, and unblock ideas from developers who have visions that will drive performance for the company
  • Develop methods to detect, monitor, and alert on anomalies in data for signal and noise detection
  • Use relational and dimensional modeling techniques to create consistent, reusable, and extendible representations of inventory, price, and sales data
  • Develop KPIs to drive customer value from the data to be fed into BI tools at ease
  • Own sourcing and ingestion of customer data

Technical skills 

  • Experience with SQL pipelines, query optimization, and data warehousing (i.e. ClickHouse, postgres, MySQL, Redshift, Snowflake)
  • Experience with at least one programming language, preferably Python
  • Experience with the use of cloud computing infrastructure, preferably AWS
  • Experience with web scraping and reverse engineering APIs is a huge plus
  • Familiarity with the use of containers and ecosystem preferred (i.e. Docker, Kubernetes, AWS ECS)
  • Experience with CICD tooling preferred (i.e. GitHub Actions, Jenkins, gitlab-c)
  • Project management tools (e.g., Jira) 
  • Tableau / Power BI / Preset (preferred but not required)

 

Experience

  • Experience in the management of data and analytics projects
  • Working with retail or consumer data or alternative data sources
  • Highly proficient in Project Management principles, methods, techniques and tools
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong people management skills
  • Startup experience

  • Organizational engineering
  • Able to work hybrid from our NYC office Tues- Thurs
