(Senior) Data Scientist
At DATAPAO, data ignites passion, community fuels collaboration, and growth knows no bounds. We are a leading Data Engineering and Data Science consulting company backed by Databricks and recognized for our unmatched delivery standards and rapid growth. We have been named Databricks EMEA Emerging Business Partner of the Year and have achieved a second consecutive appearance on the Financial Times FT1000 list.
We are currently looking for a well-versed (Senior) Data Scientist to join the team to deliver consulting expertise our EMEA and US-based customers.
What (exactly) will you do?
As a (Senior) Data Scientist, your responsibilities will span across the following dimensions:
Project Planning & Delivery
In the planning phase of a project, you're expected to lead or participate in scoping the engagement, designing high-level architecture, defining subtasks, and project delivery schedules. After the planning phase is over, you'll deliver the project on your own or within a mixed DS/DE team setup where you'll oftentimes take the role of a technical lead. Furthermore, during the project delivery, you will be client-facing, acting as DATAPAO's interface or SPOC to our customers.
During non-delivery cycles, you will provide ML/DS consultancy to technical teams for our EMEA customers. Our customers are either direct DATAPAO customers or coming via our Databricks partnership.
Data Science & AI consultancy
As a consultant, you will work closely with Databricks and cloud providers to understand the needs and requirements of clients. Based on your understanding, you will recommend solutions that leverage Databricks or native cloud features. Additionally, you will be responsible for conducting workshops to enable clients on these platforms.
Internal Solution Development
Besides customer projects, you’ll also work on internal solution development and research initiatives. Furthermore, you will be expected to grow your industry-specific knowledge and learn new technologies & methodologies by participating in the Data Science Group and by delivering solutions for internal usage.
Wider Organizational Initiatives
Occasionally, you can participate in developing Data Science and Machine Learning courseware (for our Education arm) to be delivered to customers or internal teams. You could also add value by providing technical (pre-sales) support for our Sales Team or creating content for marketing and sales.
Last but not least, if you would like to and have the required people skills, you can mentor other members of the data science guild. This includes regular tech mentorship meetings, one-on-ones, knowledge sharing sessions, and participation in performance reviews among others.
What does it take to fit the bill?
Soft Skills
- Strong consultant mindset & passion for customer experience - customer success is your default mindset. Hence, you go the extra mile and seek to advise (rather than purely execute) your customers on the best-in-class technical solutions even when inconvenient;
- Excellent communication & presentation skills - you can adjust your communication style, and articulate complex, technical concepts and data stories to all types of audiences, and translate between business and technical people;
- Ability to deliver data science projects - you're capable of leading a team of data scientists/engineers in data science-heavy projects. You must be able to fully understand and translate business requirements, deliver them together with the team, and explain the proposed solution(s) to a non-technical/business audience;
- You thrive when having to solve problems & take ownership - you solve problems on your own and guide others on how to do the same. Moreover, you love stepping up as a technical lead or identifying organizational gaps and filling them in - being an organizational process or documentation gap, a customer communication miss-match, or a resource allocation deficiency;
- You are fluent in English and willing to travel (mainly in the EU and generally within a short business trip setup) up to 10% of your time;
- [BONUS] Mentoring skills & a predisposition to knowledge-sharing - are things that excite you. We consider ourselves a learning organization and believe these are meaningful tools for one to compound his/her impact across the team. Thus, technical mentoring and/or people management hands-on experience is a big plus.
Tech Skills
- Solid software engineering foundations (git, clean code principles, OO programming, etc.);
- Strong Python knowledge of the most common DS libraries;
- Understanding Large Language Models (LLMs) and familiarity with their frameworks/libraries;
- Advanced knowledge in cloud technologies, preferably in Azure or AWS;
- Proficiency in any deep learning framework;
- Good knowledge of data visualization tools/libraries;
- [BONUS] Experience with distributed computing, preferably Spark;
- [BONUS] Experience with MLOps;
- [BONUS] Experience with Databricks.
What do we offer?
- Educational benefits - there’s no shortage of learning opportunities at DATAPAO, meaning that you'll get access to Databricks' public and internal courses to learn all the tricks of Distributed Data Processing, MLOps, Apache Spark, Databricks, and Cloud Migration from the best. Additionally, we'll pay for various data & cloud certifications. You'll also get dedicated time for learning during work hours and access to our internal library.
-
Flexible PTO and Working Hours - we’re flexible about your working routine and how many days you take off if it does not conflict with customer success, company goals, and getting the work done.
-
Flexible Office - it is up to you which days you spend in the office. However, as a strong community is one of DATAPAO's value propositions, we’d expect you to spend one day per week in the office on average.
-
30 Calendar Days of Paternity Leave (if applicable) - we think it’s essential for both parents to be there when it matters the most.
-
Private Medical Insurance - we provide a private medical package via Generali. Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Through EAP, we offer our employees access to psychological, financial, and legal consulting services via phone or in person.
-
Top-notch working equipment - working comfortably means working well. Therefore, you will get a MacBook, a Herman Miller office chair, standing desks in the office, and whatever else is needed to give your best.
-
The chance to make an impact in a high-transparency culture - open feedback and a no-politics environment are things we value a lot at DATAPAO. Additionally, you'll get the chance to shape the future of a rapidly growing tech company, to work with cutting-edge technologies, and to help some of the biggest and most innovative companies in the world sort out their data puzzles.
-
A cozy and modern office in the heart of Budapest - located in a vibrant, central part of the city (Opera/Oktogon), it's designed to foster focus, creativity, and team connection. You'll find open spaces for group work, quiet corners for deep thinking, and plenty of natural light. It’s well-stocked with snacks, drinks, coffee, and beverages. Optional Friday evening beers, movie, and wine-tasting nights with the team are also on us.
The gross salary for this position ranges between 1.200.000 - 1.700.000 HUF/month for a Mid and between 1.700.000 - 2.300.000 HUF/month for a Senior role, depending on your assessed seniority level during the selection process.
