How you'll demonstrate Ownership

As the Data Science Manager for Europe, you will lead and grow a team of talented Data Scientists delivering data-driven solutions that empower our customers to make impactful business decisions. You will be responsible for building a high-performing team, driving technical excellence, and ensuring successful delivery across customer engagements in industries such as Oil & Gas, Power & Utilities, and Manufacturing.

Working closely with Data Engineers, Solution Architects, Project Managers, and regional leadership, you will help shape our data science strategy across Europe while supporting customers in unlocking the full value of their industrial data.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Data Scientists across Europe, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on data science methodologies, machine learning, optimization, and GenAI applications.
  • Drive the successful delivery of customer projects, ensuring high-quality outcomes and scalable solutions.
  • Partner with customers and stakeholders to understand business challenges, lead discovery workshops, and identify opportunities where data science can create measurable value.
  • Support the development and deployment of scalable solutions for customer use cases across Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and Power & Utilities.
  • Guide teams through data exploration, cleansing, feature engineering, model development, deployment, and operationalization.
  • Champion the adoption of GenAI techniques to enhance decision-making and accelerate customer outcomes.
  • Ensure best practices are followed across model development, deployment, software engineering, and project delivery.
  • Contribute to and evolve reusable solution templates, frameworks, and data science standards within Cognite.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Delivery teams to align capabilities with customer needs and business priorities.
  • Support customers and partners in conducting advanced data science activities using Cognite products.
  • Participate in hiring, workforce planning, performance management, and career development initiatives to build a world-class Data Science organization in Europe.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to both internal stakeholders and customers, helping shape data strategies and long-term success.

The Impact you'll bring to Cognite

  • Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or another quantitative discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics, or a related field.
  • Previous experience leading, managing, and developing technical teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong expertise in Python, SQL, and modern machine learning frameworks.
  • Experience deploying machine learning solutions into production environments and delivering measurable business impact.
  • Deep understanding of machine learning, statistics, optimization techniques, and predictive analytics.
  • Experience leveraging Generative AI technologies to solve business problems and create innovative solutions.
  • Proven ability to engage with customers, influence stakeholders, and translate business challenges into scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, MLOps practices, and collaborative development workflows using Git.
  • Experience working within industrial sectors such as Oil & Gas, Energy, Manufacturing, Asset Performance Management, Reliability, Maintenance, or Production Optimization is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated success in building high-performing teams and creating an inclusive, collaborative culture.
  • Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with hands-on technical guidance when needed.
  • A passion for innovation, continuous learning, and helping customers achieve transformative business outcomes.
