The role

 

The Procurement Lead is the on-site people leader responsible for supervising and developing a team of 6–10 procurement professionals, including Buyers, Vendor Onboarding Specialists, and Procurement Enablement, and Data Analysts, based in Mauritius. This role operates within a global procurement organization, supporting Category Management, Procurement Operations and business stakeholders primarily located in the United States and the United Kingdom.

 

The Procurement Lead provides day-to-day operational leadership, coaching, and performance management to ensure consistent, high-quality execution across transactional procurement activities. While Buyers receive category strategy and direction from Group Procurement and Category Managers through dotted-line reporting relationships, this role is accountable for local team leadership, operational execution, workload management, and continuous improvement.

 

This position requires strong experience operating in a global, matrixed environment, with the ability to lead teams across time zones, align with US- and UK-based stakeholders, and reinforce global procurement standards while maintaining high service levels.

 

Key responsibilities

 

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide direct, on-site supervision for a team of Buyers, Vendor Onboarding Specialists, and Procurement Enablement resources.
  • Manage day-to-day workload allocation, prioritization, and issue resolution to ensure timely execution of procurement activities.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members, providing regular feedback, performance reviews, and career development guidance.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture focused on accountability, service, and continuous improvement.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and ramp-up of new team members.

Procurement Operations & Execution

  • Oversee transactional procurement activities across the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Ensure Buyers effectively manage requisition queues, purchase order execution, catalogue usage, and PO lifecycle activities in alignment with category strategies.
  • Oversee vendor onboarding activities to ensure suppliers are set up accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with legal, financial, and risk requirements.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex operational issues, stakeholder concerns, and system or process breakdowns.

Performance Management & KPIs

  • Define, monitor, and drive achievement of operational KPIs, including cycle times, backlog health, compliance rates, catalog utilization, and service-level adherence.
  • Use data and dashboards to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Procurement Operations, Finance, and Group Procurement to ensure reporting accuracy and alignment on performance expectations.

Cross-Functional & Matrix Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary operational interface between the Mauritius-based procurement team and Group Procurement / Category Management teams located in the US and UK.
  • Ensure Buyers are aligned to global category strategies, guided buying principles, and sourcing outcomes provided by Category Managers.
  • Partner closely with US- and UK-based stakeholders to support business needs, manage expectations, and ensure effective communication across time zones.
  • Reinforce global procurement policies, standards, and operating models while supporting regional execution requirements.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration across solid-line (local) and dotted-line (global/category) reporting relationships.

Process Improvement & Enablement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline transactional procurement processes, reduce manual effort, and improve user experience.
  • Support implementation and adoption of procurement tools, catalogs, and guided buying solutions.
  • Partner with Procurement Enablement resources to drive standardization, documentation, and training.
  • Ensure adherence to procurement policies, delegation of authority, and financial controls.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proven people leadership skills with the ability to supervise, coach, and develop on-site operational teams.
  • Strong transactional procurement expertise across the Procure-to-Pay lifecycle.
  • Experience working in global, matrixed organizations supporting stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage US- and UK-based stakeholders from an offshore or nearshore location.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with comfort acting as an escalation point.
  • Data-driven mindset with experience managing to KPIs and service levels.

Required / Preferred Experience and Qualifications

 

 

 

 

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Procurement, Purchasing, Supply Chain, or Finance with a strong focus on transactional or operational procurement.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising or leading teams in a procurement, shared services, or global operations environment.
  • Hands-on experience with P2P systems such as Coupa, Ariba, GEP, Medius, or similar platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, or a related field required.

Preferred Experience

·         Familiarity with Source-to-Pay (S2P) tools and procurement systems (e.g., Coupa) is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience supporting US- and/or UK-based stakeholders from an offshore or global delivery center.
  • Experience working in matrixed organizations with dotted-line reporting structures.
