Director: Financial Controller and Treasury

Cape Town

We Are Setting The Pace

Clickatell is a world-class Chat Commerce company, ambitious to stay ahead of its competitors. We build our own culture in which we dream big and stay busy doing the right things.  We need champions who understand the bigger picture, believe in making a difference and are able to connect the dots to achieve success.  In our agile and demanding environment, you will be required to collaborate, ask the right questions and take the smart risk.

We call ourselves Champions. Why Champions? Because it’s not only about what we have done, but what we are doing and going to do.  The way we do things, matter and influences how we drive our organization forward and deliver solutions to our customers.  Watch this space as we blaze a new path while expanding across the globe.

Purpose

We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to join our Finance Leadership team as Director: Financial Controller & Treasury. Reporting to the SVP Finance, this pivotal role will lead a team of 20+ professionals with deep experience, and help shift the function toward greater agility, automation, and strategic impact. The role offers the opportunity to modernise core finance operations and build scalable processes that support growth.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of finance at a leading digital commerce business, working closely with an engaged Executive team, a supportive Board, and top-tier Silicon Valley VC investors. As we expand significantly in the coming years, this role will be instrumental in evolving our accounting and treasury functions to support scale, operational excellence, and future-fit processes.

The successful candidate will lead all operational aspects of the Accounting and Treasury functions and serve as a key stakeholder in Finance, Tax, and legal entity decisions. As a growth company, we need a leader who can instil confidence in our finance operations and controls at the C- and Board levels. Beyond technical expertise, we’re looking for someone who can influence broader business decisions, optimise processes, and identify opportunities that drive strategic value across the organisation.

We Do The Right Things

Responsibilities of the Role

  • Report directly to the SVP Finance and serve as a key contributor to the strategic direction and success of the company.
  • Lead, develop, and grow a global team responsible for core Accounting and Treasury operations, with a focus on modernising processes, driving automation, and building a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Oversee all accounting functions, ensuring reporting and bookkeeping are accurate, timely, and compliant with all relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Take ultimate responsibility for the company’s accounting close processes (monthly, quarterly, and annually), annual audit, and external reporting.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all relevant standards and laws.
  • Develop and implement accounting strategies, analyse accounts, and recommend improvements to reduce costs, maximise profits, and support business growth.
  • Provide expertise on industry changes, and guide updates to financial policies, procedures, and internal controls as needed.
  • Champion transformation initiatives, including the implementation of new systems and technologies, to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the finance function.
  • Identify and address legacy processes that may hinder growth, proactively implementing best practices aligned with a high-growth, digital-first environment.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in Finance, Tax, and legal entity decisions, ensuring robust governance and risk management.
  • Instil confidence in finance operations and controls at the C-level and Board level through strong leadership, transparency, and effective communication.
  • Act as an influential leader for the broader business, leveraging knowledge and experience to drive sound business decisions, optimise processes, and identify opportunities for strategic value creation.
  • Foster a collaborative, agile, and high-performance culture within the team, supporting professional development and engagement during a period of significant business expansion
