Legal Counsel
Bradken is a global manufacturer and solutions provider for the resources sector, with a 3,000-strong workforce and more than 100 years of experience behind us.
We are seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to support Bradken’s legal, compliance and risk matters across our global business.
Reporting to the Head of Governance & Risk, you will provide practical legal advice across Australia, Asia, North America and other regions as required. This is a hands-on role for someone who can balance legal judgement, commercial reality and stakeholder needs in a complex industrial environment.
About the Role
You will work closely with leaders across Sales, Operations, Marketing & Technology, Corporate Services and Governance & Risk to support sound decision-making across contracts, disputes, investigations, insurance, compliance and legal operations.
Your advice will need to be clear, timely and grounded in how the business operates. You will help stakeholders assess legal, financial, commercial and reputational risk, challenge positions where needed, and translate complex issues into options the business can act on.
This role requires strong judgement, sound stakeholder influence and the ability to balance governance requirements with operational priorities, escalating higher-risk matters while helping the business move forward with confidence.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
· Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, licences, tender documents, leases and customer-supplier agreements.
· Advise on contractual, regulatory and compliance matters, including risk mitigation strategies.
· Support Sales and Operations with contract terms, standard agreements, dealer arrangements and customer negotiations.
· Advise on disputes, investigations and compliance incidents.
· Manage external legal advisors and matters briefed to external lawyers.
· Support insurance renewals, including coordination with Bradken’s insurance broker.
· Improve legal templates, workflows, systems and processes, including legal technology and AI-assisted review where appropriate.
· Develop policies, procedures and training that help the business understand and manage legal and compliance obligations.
About You
You will bring:
· Australian legal qualification and strong commercial legal experience, ideally gained across private practice and in-house environments.
· Experience drafting, reviewing, interpreting and negotiating commercial contracts, tender documents, licences and customer-supplier agreements.
· Strong understanding of domestic and international commercial legal frameworks.
· Experience advising on compliance matters, contractual risk, disputes, investigations and risk mitigation.
· Experience managing external legal advisors and legal matters briefed to external lawyers.
· Strong commercial contract experience, with exposure to equipment supply, technical services, intellectual property, design obligations or complex customer-supplier arrangements.
· Exposure to mining, energy, heavy manufacturing, industrial services, equipment supply or another complex B2B environment will be highly regarded.
You will suit this role if you enjoy being close to the business, working with different stakeholders, and turning legal complexity into clear, useful guidance.
