What’s the Role?

As a Laboratory Assistant, you’ll support the Quality team with sample preparation, testing, and general laboratory activities.

This entry-level role is ideal for someone who is motivated to work in a laboratory environment, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in producing accurate and consistent results.

You will work both independently and collaboratively to ensure timely, high-quality laboratory outputs while maintaining a safe, organised, and efficient workspace.

This role supports a manufacturing environment, so the work involves hands-on sample preparation, working with production materials, and moving between the laboratory and production areas.

Your Impact

  • Gathering samples from relevant production areas

  • Managing laboratory consumables and stock levels

  • Cutting samples using the appropriate tools and equipment in accordance with procedures

  • Preparing samples for etching using manual and automated polishing equipment

  • Etching samples and preparing etchants following established procedures

  • Conducting hardness testing and reviewing results against specifications

  • Assessing Volume Fraction Carbides (VFC) for compliance with specifications

  • Recording results and entering data accurately into spreadsheets and records

  • Maintaining a neat, tidy, and safe laboratory work area

  • Conducting sieve analysis as required

  • Performing routine laboratory housekeeping, including cleaning equipment, following procedures, and reporting hazards

  • Supporting other laboratory or quality-related tasks as required

You Bring

Essential

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on laboratory environment within a manufacturing facility 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Willingness to learn and follow established procedures
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Reliability, organisation, and commitment to high standards
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills

Preferred

  • Certificate III in Laboratory Skills or higher

  • Experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment (beneficial but not essential)

This is a full-time role based at our Bassendean site in Western Australia.

This entry-level role is ideal for someone interested in practical laboratory work supporting manufacturing and quality testing.

This is a wages position paid under the Bradken Resources Pty Limited Bassendean Enterprise Agreement 2023 at a rate of $34.92 per hour.

Before commencing employment, you will be required to complete a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing.
