We are looking for a Sourcing Quality Lead to join our Product Sourcing Team and drive world-class quality performance across our global supplier base for the Mining Mobile Plant business unit, covering Ground Engaging Tools (GET), Buckets, Dipper Shovels, and other heavy Wear Parts for mining machines.
Role Purpose & Contribution
As Sourcing Quality Lead (SQL), you will hold a key supervisory position, making strategic quality improvements across our sourced supplier network. You will partner closely with Category Managers, Sourcing Technical Engineers, and Project Managers, acting as the primary quality safeguard in both new product introduction and daily supplier management.
You will supervise and coach our Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs), owning the execution of our quality strategy to control and prevent quality issues at the source.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supplier Development: Lead initial quality assessments and qualifications of new manufacturing suppliers.
- Project Quality Management: Oversee all APQP Advanced Product Quality Planning/PPAP Production Part Approval Process activities within new product sourcing projects to ensure launch readiness.
- Quality Management: Own supplier performance in daily operations, tracking metrics, performing audits, and driving Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Actions (CAPA).
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor Sourcing Quality Engineers.
Key Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary education in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Quality Management, or a related technical field in the steel industry.
- 5-7 years of experience in supplier quality engineering in the steel industry (foundry & casting, steel making, heavy mechanical, machinery & equipment)
- Proven experience in supplier quality management, process and systems audit execution, and team leadership
- Proficiency in core quality tools (APQP, PPAP, Control Plan, FMEA, 8D,) and knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949 or AS 9100)
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, supervisory experience and high emotional intelligence for global supplier relationship management, ownership and personal drive.
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
- Bonus Skills: Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, as the role will involve working with some suppliers in South America. Not mandatory.
This is a remote position requiring frequent travel to supplier sites across the Americas (North, Central and South). Candidates may be based in either the USA or Canada.
