Your Mission:

Join our team as a Financial Risk Officer, specialising in leading and embedding financial risk management across the Bitpanda Group. You will support the Group Risk Management team primarily identifying, assessing, monitoring, and treating all types of Financial Risks. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a culture of risk management excellence, upholding the use and adoption of Bitpanda’s Enterprise Risk Management framework, while promoting innovative ways to keep customers and company financial assets safe. Within that capacity you will drive policies, standards, and challenge to ensure market, liquidity, credit, counterparty and capital risks are well-controlled, regulatory expectations are met, and the firm’s financial resilience underpins growth.

Working independently, with an entrepreneurial spirit, you have a strong analytical mindset with strong experience in financial risk management, (ideally) a passion for digital assets and related lifecycle processes and a strong desire to play a part in building out the foundations for the future of finance! Through your engagement and oversight over all core business processes and activities across the business, you will challenge management to think differently about risk, becoming a key advisor to our business, products, technology and operations teams.

You will report to the Group Head of Compliance and Risk, becoming a key part of Bitpanda’s growing Group Risk Management Team.

What you’ll do:

• Champion the Financial Risk Framework – Own the Financial Risk Management Framework (FRMF), including policies, standards, and procedures across market, liquidity, credit, and capital risks. Support the definition and oversight of risk appetite, KRIs, limits, and escalation rules aligned with strategic and regulatory objectives.   Periodically review and enhance frameworks to reflect new products, markets, or regulatory changes.
• Provide Oversight & Challenge – Provide independent 2LOD oversight of trading and treasury risk exposures across crypto and other assets.  Challenge risk models, pricing assumptions, liquidity management, and client asset controls.  Monitor compliance with risk policies and appetite; escalate and recommend remediation where required.

• Regulatory & Capital Management – Support ICAAP/ICARA, liquidity assessments, and prudential reporting under MiCA, CASP, and MiFID II.  Maintain up-to-date interpretation of evolving EU/UK regulatory expectations. Oversee the execution of stress testing and scenario analysis to inform capital and liquidity planning.

• Risk Measurement & Reporting – Develop concise reporting on market, liquidity, counterparty, and funding risks.   Produce risk dashboards for leadership and the Risk Committee.  Embed early-warning triggers and actionable insights into management reports.
• Collaboration & Advisory - Partner with Trading, Treasury, Product, Technology and Operations to embed frameworks and ensure compliance with policies.  Advise on product design (e.g., lending, staking, margin) from a risk and control lens.  Collaborate with Non-Financial and ICT Risk for integrated risk insight across the business.
  
  
  

Who you are:

• Seasoned Risk Professional – 5–8+ years in financial risk management, ideally in brokerage, trading, or crypto, ideally in fast-paced Fintech and Digital Asset environments.  Proven 2LOD oversight and policy governance experience.  Exposure to both institutional and retail client risk environments.
• Financial Risk Expert – Proficient in market, liquidity, credit, and capital risk management. Experience designing and maintaining policies, frameworks, and standards.  Knowledge of MiCA, MiFID II, and prudential risk principles.  Proficiency in analytics and reporting tools (Excel, Python, SQL). Deep understanding of MaRisk, BaFin, and the full financial product lifecycle—from licensing to settlement—paired with strong market awareness.  
• Entrepreneurial, Adaptable & Great Communicator – Entrepreneurial, adaptive, independent thinker, analytical, independent, and commercially pragmatic.  Clear communicator, confident with senior management and regulators.  Adaptable and forward-looking in fast-moving market and regulatory landscapes.
• Proactive & Impact-Oriented – Self-starter who thrives in dynamic settings, driving high-impact, low-friction risk management practices.
