About biomodal

Join the multiomic revolution! Over the last 20 years, genomic technologies have enabled significant discoveries that bring the promise of personalised medicine closer than ever before. But after two decades of research, it’s clear that genetic variation only tells part of the story – biology is dynamic and more complex than A, C, T, G. Already, the added information from a multiomic view of biology is yielding important insights into cancer, ageing, and neurological disease, and is poised to revolutionise how we understand health and disease beyond canonical variation in DNA.

biomodal is an omics-based life sciences technology and analytics company, delivering products that bring the dynamism of our ever-changing biology into focus. Our team is dedicated to developing the most advanced solutions to interrogate and understand the complex interplay of genomics and epigenomics.

We have launched our first products, the duet +modC and duet evoC solutions, with more in the pipeline, and are looking to grow and evolve our business accordingly.  This is an incredible opportunity to step into an exciting, early-stage company at the cutting edge of science with exceptional growth and market impact potential.

Multiomics is the future – come and join the biomodal team!

The role

Our technology provides our customers with novel multi-modal information that will enable new scientific discoveries. Our Collaborations & Applications team are responsible for ensuring our customers can extract maximum insight from data generated using biomodal products. In this role, you can expect to collaborate closely with scientists from our customer’s organisations, as well as the data scientists, bioinformaticians and engineers developing our core software products. You are expected to follow the literature in a fast-moving field and contribute to defining how biomodal’s products can be used in real-world applications.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers to test our products in their use cases and drive the collaborative work towards scientific publication
  • Design, execute and analyse experiments to evaluate the utility of our products in customer applications
  • Produce proof-of-concept methods to evaluate novel methods to analyse novel data from biomodal products in customer applications.
  • Liaise with customers to help understand their requirements and communicate them to our product development teams
  • Use complex omics data to troubleshoot experiments and liaise with product development and product management teams to devise solutions.

The person

The ideal candidate will have a background in bioinformatics or computational biology and be looking for a collaborative and dynamic environment in which they can have real-world impact.

  • Expertise in at least one of the programming languages commonly used in computational science and scientific programming (such as Python, R, or Julia).
  • Familiarity with methods used in genomic data science, including experimental design, QC, and common methods of secondary and tertiary analysis such as variant calling, CNV calling, DMR analysis.
  • Familiarity with the most common bioinformatics data formats, such as FASTQ, BAM, and VCF, and with computational methods to access these.
  • Familiarity with methods for summarising and displaying data in graphical format, such as seaborn or ggplot.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of software development best practices (version control, code review, pair programming, agile/scrum, testing, etc.)
  • Experience using systems on cloud platforms (such as GCP or AWS).
  • Experience with genomic-specific computational workflow platforms (such as snakemake or NextFlow).

Behaviours

  • An entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to work in a fast-paced, commercially focused organisation.
