Crew Chief – Test & Integration

Helmond, North Brabant, Netherlands

What will you do as Crew Chief – Test & Integration
You start as Crew Chief, elbows deep in test setups, guiding builds and cracking tough integration puzzles — like why that new battery string keeps tripping the safety relay. You’re the one the team turns to when things get tricky, not just to fix, but to explain, coach, and push things forward. With time, structure, and patience, you grow the team— bringing clarity, helping others level up, and co-shaping how the team works. You’re not handling salary talks or HR stuff (yet), but your input on performance and growth matters. The growth path towards Captain Test & Integration won’t happen overnight but it's there on the horizon.

Back to today; you kick off your day rallying the Test & Integration crew in a dynamic stand-up. Alongside the Team Captain MEGA you’re not just running through to-do’s — you’re setting the pace, clearing roadblocks, and aligning the team like a boss. Then it’s time to get your hands dirty. Whether you’re wiring up a new test rig, integrating the latest safety features, or analyzing battery packs that hold up to 800 kWh of raw power — you’re in the thick of it. You’re the go-to problem-solver, the debugger-in-chief, and the force that keeps hardware, software, and mechanical systems playing nicely together. You’re not just doing — you’re teaching the next generation of kick-ass engineers, mentoring them technically and structurally. All while making sure our systems stay sharp, safe, and become smarter and smarter. Your current team is 2.2 FTE. The job in a nutshell;

  • Lead the charge on prototype builds and upgrades
  • Debug new systems and features, delivering insights back to R&D
  • Coach and grow T&I engineers, helping them level up in skill and structure
  • Co-develop and execute test plans, from HV hardware to embedded software
  • Solve deep technical puzzles — across electronics, mechanics, and code
  • Document clearly, accurately, and usefully (yes, really — it matters!)
  • Drive continuous improvements in how we work and what we build
  • Be the bridge between engineering and operations

What do we expect you will bring to Big Ass Battery?
You’re a hands-on builder with a sharp technical mind and a natural ability and instinct to lead. You thrive on solving real engineering challenges — from high-voltage hardware to clever software fixes — and love coaching others while doing it. You’re calm under pressure, serious about safety, and obsessed with quality. Whether you’re debugging a prototype or mentoring an engineer, you lead by example. No ego, just action — and the drive to build badass systems and an even better team. You recognize yourself in:

  • A degree in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering (Bachelor or higher)
  • Experience (or a very strong affinity) with high-voltage systems — up to 1000V DC, 360kW AC — aka your playground
  • You’ve built, tested, and owned complex prototypes — and still enjoy the smell of solder in the morning
  • You can debug a flaky board, a faulty cable, or a mysterious software gremlin
  • You have a sharp eye for quality, safety, and detail — shortcuts aren’t your thing
  • You’re a natural leader who has a proven track record in guiding others, bringing order to chaos, building team confidence
  • You have worked across all disciplines — mechanics, electronics, software — and thrive at the intersections
  • Valid NL driver’s license with the willingness to travel when needed throughout the Netherlands
  • You’re NEN1010 / NEN3140 / VCA certified (or eager to get there fast)
  • Extra points if you know your way around C++ or PLCs (like PLCnext)

What do we have to offer you?
In addition to the opportunity to unleash your "test & integration wizardry" you will also receive a nice package of employment conditions. • We follow the Technical Installation Company Collective Labor Agreement, which means that you are assured of fair conditions including a strong pension scheme

About Big Ass Battery 🔋
We are Big Ass Battery; a fast-growing scale-up in the premier league of the energy transition. We build energy storage systems at the highest level: from battery cell to complete 10ft battery containers. Big Ass Battery is a Dutch company and we are located in Helmond. We didn't fit in our previous office anymore so that is why we traded up in november 2023 to our new facility of 15.000 m2 and a total surface of 41.775 m2! When you join our team, you not only contribute to the production of batteries, but you also contribute to the growth of a company with big ass ambitions. Our batteries are an important part of the solution to the current challenges we face in the energy transition. For example, you can place a Big Ass Battery at an event location or for charging electric cars. Or on a construction site where a sustainable company wants to use electric excavators and other power tools. Companies can even link a revenue model to the use of the Big Ass Battery. Agricultural companies, for example, use the Big Ass Battery for solar energy storage. In short, plenty of possibilities.
