Funding Wizard
What will you do as Funding Wizard?
At Big Ass Battery, we don’t just store energy—we want to spark a revolution in Europe! We’re looking for a pro-active Funding Wizard to supercharge our R&D and innovation roadmap with non-dilutive public funding from the Netherlands and the EU. If you love enabling visionary tech into reality (and have a knack for convincing governments), this role is the charging port you want to plug into. You’ll be the connector between our technical ambitions and the world of public subsidies, grants, and innovation funding.
Your mission (if you choose to accept it): keep our roadmap fully charged ensuring all R&D and innovation initiatives are funded with the capital it needs to flow fast, efficiently, and brilliantly. You will be responsible for securing €150,000 in funding in the remainder of 2025, growing this to a minimum of €1M+ annually by 2029. Additionally, you will ensure that each item on our technical roadmap is backed by at least one matching funded project. After acceptance of the grant and/or subsidy you will lead the execution of these projects, including their planning, budget management, and reporting. The challenge in a nutshell:
- Identify and secure funding from sources such as RVO, MIT, DEI+, Horizon Europe, LIFE, WBSO, Groeifonds, and the Innovation Fund
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of grant opportunities, with defined timelines and success probabilities
- Draft, coordinate, and submit high-impact funding proposals (including consortia submissions)
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with grant agencies, clusters, advisors, and policymakers
- Build a strong network of likeminded companies and partners and tag along on their knowledges and vice versa
- Collaborate with our CTO and Captains of our engineering teams to align technical milestones with funding programs and relevant KPIs
- Actively shape and adapt our innovation roadmap to reflect emerging funding trends
- Ensure 100% compliance and timely reporting on all granted projects
- Represent Big Ass Battery in relevant consortia, policy forums, and industry working groups at both national and EU levels
What do we expect you will bring to Big Ass Battery?
It probably won’t surprise you: we’re on the hunt for someone who brings positive energy into the room. We’re looking for a sharp-minded and concise person who is eager to build this new position from scratch. You’re not just a number cruncher — you’re a strategic partner who speaks fluent tech ánd human. Someone who is resilient, patient and detail-oriented. You don’t flinch when things are undefined, you’ll get it into the shape it needs to be in and bring structure. You are persuasive, collaborative and always (too) curious, furthermore you have:
- A technical background (ideally in electrical or software engineering) at a Bachelor level or higher
- A proven trackrecord in winning public R&D funding (Netherlands and EU), with a solid network in the funding ecosystem
- Strong organizational and projectmanagement skills, particularly in technical environments
- Deep familiarity with the language and mechanics of Horizon Europe, LIFE, DEI+, WBSO, RVO, and similar
- Exceptional communication skills in English, you can write a killer funding proposal that sparks (in the good way)
- Experience with reporting systems (e.g., EU funding portals or subsidy accounting tools)
- Full-time availability (40 hours per week) and willingness to support R&D teams with technical support when needed
Because this is a brand-new position your first year will primarily focus on building and expanding your network within the Netherlands. As the position evolves and shifts toward a more European scope, we expect you to spend approximately three months per year abroad—typically in one-week trips max—to attend key events and hold meetings across various locations in Europe.

About Big Ass Battery 🔋
We are Big Ass Battery; a fast-growing scale-up in the premier league of the energy transition. We build energy storage systems at the highest level: from battery cell to complete 10ft battery containers. Big Ass Battery is a Dutch company and we are located in Helmond. We didn't fit in our previous office anymore so that is why we traded up in november 2023 to our new facility of 15.000 m2 and a total surface of 41.775 m2! When you join our team, you not only contribute to the production of batteries, but you also contribute to the growth of a company with big ass ambitions. Our batteries are an important part of the solution to the current challenges we face in the energy transition. For example, you can place a Big Ass Battery at an event location or for charging electric cars. Or on a construction site where a sustainable company wants to use electric excavators and other power tools. Companies can even link a revenue model to the use of the Big Ass Battery. Agricultural companies, for example, use the Big Ass Battery for solar energy storage. In short, plenty of possibilities.
