Application Engineer
What will you do as Application Engineer?
Sure, fixing standard issues, handling malfunctions, and keeping things running smoothly is part of the gig—but let’s be honest, that’s just the warm-up. The real challenge—and the part where you shine—is guiding the successful implementation of our BESS systems at customer sites. You’ll be the go-to expert in making complex energy storage installations tick flawlessly in real-life, on-site situations. That means getting your boots on the ground, understanding the unique context of each client location, and turning a theoretical design into a perfectly working, regulation-compliant system. You’ll visualize, inspect, and optimize—not from behind a desk, but at the heart of the action. You work with, and alongside of, a lot of different stakeholders —translating the intricacies of energy storage into practical, safe, and smart installations that follow NEN1010 regulations not just in theory, but in actual execution.
Next to that, you dive into data, sift through reports (yes, some analyzing is required), and craft concrete improvement plans that actually work. Once the problem is solved? You make sure we either eliminate it forever or classify it as a “special” for future reference. After a solid onboarding period, you’ll be the technical point of contact for our customers who deserve that extra attention. What else will I do? Glad you asked, you:
- inspect customer sites upfront, analyze the situation, identify critical parameters, and steer clients toward the best integration strategy for their BESS system
- help with installation, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting—but with a heavy focus on physical system deployment, not just software
- tackle mechanical and electrical challenges head-on and make sure our system fits the situation, not the other way around
- translate your technical insights into clear plans, guiding clients and installers (B2B partners) through the process
- ensure everything is done right: according to NEN 1010 and other safety requirements. “Good enough” is never good enough
- you ensure all components work together seamlessly before system handover
- teach customers how to use our applications and document processes so we don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time

About Big Ass Battery 🔋
We are Big Ass Battery; a fast-growing scale-up in the premier league of the energy transition. We build energy storage systems at the highest level: from battery cell to complete 10ft battery containers. Big Ass Battery is a Dutch company and we are located in Helmond. We didn't fit in our previous office anymore so that is why we traded up in november 2023 to our new facility of 15.000 m2 and a total surface of 41.775 m2! When you join our team, you not only contribute to the production of batteries, but you also contribute to the growth of a company with big ass ambitions. Our batteries are an important part of the solution to the current challenges we face in the energy transition. For example, you can place a Big Ass Battery at an event location or for charging electric cars. Or on a construction site where a sustainable company wants to use electric excavators and other power tools. Companies can even link a revenue model to the use of the Big Ass Battery. Agricultural companies, for example, use the Big Ass Battery for solar energy storage. In short, plenty of possibilities.
