Senior BI Engineer
We don’t think about job roles in a traditional way. We are anti-silo. Anti-career stagnation. Anti-conventional.
Beyond ONE is a digital services provider radically reshaping the personalised digital ecosystems of consumers in high growth markets around the world. We’re building a digital services aggregator platform, with a strong telco foundation, and a profitable growth strategy that empowers users to drive their own experience—subscribe once, source from many, and only pay for what you actually use.
Since being founded in 2021, we’ve acquired Virgin Mobile MEA, Friendi Mobile MEA and Virgin Mobile LATAM (with 6.5 million subscribers) and 1600 dedicated colleagues across Chile, Colombia, KSA, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Pakistan and UAE.
To disrupt for good takes a rebellious spirit, a questioning mind and a warm heart. We really care about how to get things done and not who manages who. We benefit from our diversity, and together, we disrupt the way we and others thinking about our lives for good.
Do you want to exchange ideas, learn from each other and leave your mark on our journey? This is the place for you.
ROLE PURPOSE
Why this role matters
As Senior BI Engineer II, you’ll be the technical backbone of our Business Intelligence function across LATAM, supporting operations in Colombia, Mexico, and Chile. You will design, build, and maintain the data models and dashboards that turn raw operational and commercial data into trusted, decision-ready intelligence. As our LATAM business scales, the demand for fast, reliable, and self-service reporting is growing — and we need someone who can engineer the BI layer that the entire region depends on. Your work will give Marketing, Commercial, Product, Finance, and Operations teams the visibility they need to act with confidence.
What success looks like
In your first year, you’ll have made a meaningful mark in three ways:
- You’ve built a scalable, well-governed BI architecture in Databricks that consolidates data from across LATAM markets and powers consistent reporting in Qlik Sense and Power BI.
- You’ve delivered a portfolio of high-quality, performant dashboards that business stakeholders trust and use daily — reducing ad-hoc reporting requests and accelerating decision-making.
- You’ve become the go-to BI engineering partner for the region — setting standards for data modelling, dashboard design, and self-service analytics that scale across markets.
Why this is for you
If you enjoy bridging engineering rigour with business impact — building data products that people actually use — this role is for you. You’ll have the autonomy to shape how BI is delivered across an entire region, working in a modern data stack with the freedom to recommend and implement what good looks like.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Design & build BI solutions: Develop scalable data models, semantic layers, and reporting datasets in Databricks to support business reporting and analytics across LATAM markets.
- Develop dashboards & visualisations: Build, optimise, and maintain enterprise-grade dashboards in Qlik Sense and Power BI — turning complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for business stakeholders.
- Engineer reliable data pipelines: Partner with Data Engineering to design and operationalise ELT/ETL pipelines, ensuring data quality, freshness, and lineage across the BI layer.
- Drive performance & optimisation: Tune SQL queries, data models, and dashboards for performance at scale — ensuring sub-second response times and efficient compute usage.
- Enable self-service analytics: Build curated datasets, certified metrics, and reusable components that empower business users to explore data confidently and consistently.
- Champion data governance & standards: Establish best practices for data modelling, naming conventions, version control, documentation, and access management across the BI environment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Commercial, Marketing, Product, Finance, and Operations teams across Colombia, Mexico, and Chile to translate business questions into well-engineered analytical solutions.
- Support multi-market operations: Manage BI workstreams simultaneously across LATAM markets, balancing local nuances with a coherent regional architecture.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES
We’re looking for someone who brings the following:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field. Equivalent practical experience is equally valued.
Experience
4+ years of hands-on experience in BI engineering, data engineering, or analytics engineering roles, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade BI solutions. Experience supporting multiple markets or countries is a strong advantage. Backgrounds in telecoms, fintech, or e-commerce are particularly relevant.
Technical Skills
Must-haves:
- Advanced SQL — expert-level proficiency with complex queries, window functions, performance tuning, and building reusable analytical models on large datasets
- Qlik Sense — strong hands-on experience designing data models, set analysis, scripting, and developing production-grade dashboards
- Power BI — proficiency with DAX, Power Query (M), data modelling, and building scalable, performant reports and semantic models
- Databricks — working knowledge of Lakehouse architecture, Delta Lake, notebooks, SQL warehouses, and Unity Catalog
- Data modelling — solid understanding of dimensional modelling (star/snowflake schemas), medallion architecture, and best practices for analytical data design
- Strong analytical skills — able to translate ambiguous business questions into well-structured analytical solutions and communicate findings clearly
Nice-to-haves:
- Python for data transformation, automation, and integration with the BI stack
- Experience with PySpark and Databricks workflows / jobs
- Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and DataOps practices for BI
- Exposure to other cloud data environments (Azure, AWS, GCP, Snowflake, BigQuery)
- Experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks
- Exposure to telecoms data — subscribers, ARPU, churn, recharge, network/usage data
Unique Attributes
- Thrives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where frameworks need to be built, not inherited
- Engineering mindset — cares deeply about data quality, performance, reusability, and documentation
- Proactive — surfaces insights and improvements without being asked, and pushes thinking beyond the original brief
- Comfortable operating across cultures and time zones, adapting communication style to different stakeholders
- Fluent in Spanish and English — able to present findings and influence decisions in both languages
