We are looking for Senior Backend Engineer - Elixir to join our team and have a direct impact on the system that powers our workouts and enables our members to stay healthy and fit!

You'll be developing an Elixir application that runs in an IoT-based system installed in our gyms, and your main responsibility will be keeping this crucial element to our experience reliable, scalable, observable and maintainable to support our continuous user base growth. We are big fans of devops culture, and generally prefer individual autonomy and responsibility over bureaucratic processes.

You will have the opportunity to use cutting-edge tools and technologies, both cloud-based and integrated within our IoT-equipped gyms. This role involves close collaboration with our Team Lead Engineer Devon, our Staff Software Engineer Everton, as well as with our engineering and product teams at the Berlin office.

You will:

• Build a workout experience that provides high levels of scalability, reliability, and performance, while balancing security, maintainability, and operational excellence.
• Create engaging digital fitness experiences that are enjoyable for our members and help our coaches deliver great workouts.
• Help your team deliver business value by taking decisions related to the backend and actively participating in product discussions.
• Solve problems arising from our workout experience operations and ensure that the same mistake/error doesn’t happen twice.
• Be proactive in performance & availability monitoring; providing remediations for systemic issues.
• Ingest requirements, scope work, produce estimates and help define deliverables with project timelines.

You have: 

• Professional experience as an Elixir Engineer
• Experience in developing distributed applications
• In the Elixir stack, you have worked with Phoenix and Liveview
• Strong skills in software architecture and application design, with a track record of making architectural decisions and an understanding of fundamental system architecture and API design (RESTful and event-driven services)
• Proficiency in SQL and database schema design (PostgreSQL)
• A strong practice of writing clean, testable code and conducting code reviews.
• A highly cooperative nature, with the ability to establish and foster relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
• Motivation to solve complex problems and an enjoyment for the fast-paced environment of a startup
• Fluency in English

What makes you stand out:

• Experience working with IoT systems, and are comfortable with tinkering with devices like Raspberry PIs, Bluetooth/ANT+ sensors or similar
• You master safe network configurations and how to leverage them for soft real-time performance
• A hands-on, proactive mindset - you take initiative, enjoy working independently, as well as contributing effectively as part of a team
• Comfort with ambiguity, and a willingness to both teach and learn
