Product Manager: Checkout & Post Purchase
WHO WE ARE AT BASH
We are a team of leaders, bold thinkers and friends, and we’re on a mission to create remarkable omni-channel experiences for our customers.
We believe that by being Bold, Accountable, Simple and Human, our values will lead us forward, keeping us real, connected and directed.
By leveraging the power of technology and exceptional talent, we are building products that bring the physical and digital world together to create communities that prosper. This journey requires grit, ambition and teamwork as we transform SA retail for the better.
And we’re only just getting started. Now is the time to jump onboard.
We're looking for a Product Manager for our Checkout & Post Purchase team within the Omnicomm Division.
You’ll own the purchase journey from cart through checkout, order confirmation, delivery tracking, and post-purchase communication. You’ll also own core infrastructure and integrations that power this domain including the comms service and checkout & cart APIs.
Your mission is to create seamless, trustworthy experiences that reduce friction, improve conversion, and minimise customer contact through proactive, clear, and accessible information.
You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, UX, operations, customer service, and payments teams to ensure reliable, scalable, and customer-centric purchase and fulfilment experiences for customers originating from all channels - bash web & app and bashstore & kiosk.
You are:
- Comfortable owning both customer-facing experiences and the underlying infrastructure that powers them.
- Passionate about the customer - reducing friction, failure points and uncertainty.
- Curious and analytical, comfortable working with complex flows, edge cases, and dependencies to solve root cause pain points.
- A problem solver, who enjoys breaking down complex challenges and finding structured solutions.
- A clear communicator, comfortable working with engineers, designers, and business stakeholders to gather insights and collaborate.
- Organised and adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Data-driven, eager to learn how to use analytics and insights to inform decision-making.
- Skilled at managing cross-team dependencies, holding partners accountable and escalating constructively to optimise for outcomes.
Your responsibilities
Checkout & conversion
- Own the full ecommerce checkout funnel - cart, address, shipping options, collect flows & order review - optimising for conversion, reliability and a low friction experience.
- Handle the complexity that makes checkout hard - split shipments, address validation and edge case recovery.
Post purchase experience
- Design and deliver clear post-purchase experiences including order confirmation, tracking, and notifications.
- Partner with Operations and Customer Support to reduce inbound customer contact through proactive information.
- Own the end-to-end experience for endless aisle orders placed in store - ensuring customers can seamlessly track and manage their orders online and via comms.
- Collaborate with the Storetech, Fincore & Supplychain divisions on implementing the right experiences on top of core services + flows
Core PM Craft
- Create, own, and maintain the checkout & post purchase product roadmap, with clear KPI ownership: cart-to-checkout progression, checkout conversion and contacts per order.
- Conduct market or customer research and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for funnel improvements + customer experience innovation.
- Write clear & concise product scopes, user stories, acceptance criteria, and requirement specifications.
- Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives to ensure smooth execution.
- Collaborate with all product & engineering teams to manage dependencies.
- Work closely with internal operational and customer support teams to triage and resolve trends and propose interventions.
- Communicate project updates, risks, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders.
- Drive continuous improvement of the end-to-end purchase experience.
Basic qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in product management, business analysis, or a related field (internships count).
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or related fields.
- Comfortable using AI tools as part of day-to-day PM work from research, data analysis & synthesis, writing, prototyping and discovery.
- Strong critical thinking skills to be able to synthesise across multiple inputs (data, customer feedback, stakeholder opinion, and AI-generated insight) to cut through noise and propose a clear, reasoned course of action.
- Strong analytical skills with a desire to develop data-driven decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication skills in writing and in person. You must be able to adapt your message to your audience, from a technical deep-dive with engineers to a business case for leadership.
Advantageous
- Experience with checkout and order management or fulfilment systems.
- Exposure to ecommerce, logistics, fulfilment, or customer support operations.
- Experience analysing operational metrics and customer contact drivers.
- Understanding of SQL, APIs, or event driven systems (or willingness to learn).
- Interest in AI-driven innovation through agentic automation or alternative shopping implementations.
