Our Data, Analytics and AI practice is looking for an experienced Director to join the team.
Baringa is hiring experienced Directors to lead enterprise Data, Analytics & AI transformation engagements, helping commodity trading clients harness Generative AI, Agentic AI and advanced analytics to modernize trading operations, improve decision-making and create measurable business value. Our clients rely on our deep industry expertise to navigate a trading landscape defined by price volatility, increasingly complex value chains, and evolving regulatory demands. You'll help them define and execute trading strategies, build business capabilities, drive technology and digital transformation, and manage risk and compliance — all underpinned by our strong data, analytics and AI practice.
What You Will Be Doing
As a Director within Data, Analytics & AI, you will own and shape the growth of Baringa's US Energy & Resources (E&R) practice across North America, defining the go-to-market strategy around data and analytics. You will lead strategic client relationships, originate and sell complex transformation programs, develop our people, and define our market proposition while continuing to oversee delivery of high-impact engagements. The ideal candidate brings deep subject-matter expertise across several of the areas outlined below, though mastery of every discipline is not expected.
Commercial & Practice Leadership
- Drive the growth and strategic direction of Baringa's Data, Analytics & AI capability.
- Build executive client relationships and develop strategic technology partnerships.
- Originate, win, and grow consulting engagements across new and existing accounts.
- Lead complex proposals, commercial negotiations, and account growth initiatives.
- Develop market-leading offerings, accelerators, and industry thought leadership.
- Recruit, coach, and develop high-performing teams and future leaders.
- Contribute to business planning, investment decisions, and long-term practice growth.
Data, Analytics & AI
- Strategy & advisory — work with senior stakeholders to define data and AI strategies and multi-year roadmaps, advise on data governance and compliance, and run data maturity assessments using frameworks such as DAMA and DCAM.
- Define enterprise AI strategies and operating models aligned to business objectives.
- Lead adoption of Generative AI, Agentic AI, and intelligent automation across front, middle and back-office trading functions.
- Develop AI governance frameworks covering Responsible AI, model lifecycle management, security and regulatory compliance.
- Architecture & modernization — design enterprise-grade, cloud-based data platforms, lead the move away from legacy systems, and establish robust data management foundations to support a unified data model.
- Engineering & pipelines — architect scalable batch and real-time data pipelines, automate ETL/ELT workflows, and optimise processing and storage performance.
- Analytics & AI – Lead the design and deployment of predictive analytics, machine learning and Generative AI solutions that improve trading performance, operational efficiency and decision-making. Define AI use cases, oversee model lifecycle management and drive enterprise adoption.
- Leadership & delivery — lead multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, architects and analysts, mentor others, and deliver measurable value against client deliverables and KPIs.
Commodity & Energy Trading
You'll apply this expertise across the commodity and energy trading agenda, partnering with clients on engagements such as:
- Strategy & commercial advisory — US market entry and establishment, commercial trading and hedging strategy, commercial collaboration models, and book structure and transfer pricing.
- AI-enabled Trading Transformation — Apply AI strategically to modernize commodity and energy trading operations, enabling intelligent decision-making, operational efficiency across front, middle and back-office functions.
- Design AI-enabled trading operating models.
- Apply Generative AI to trader productivity, market intelligence, regulatory reporting and operational support.
- Identify opportunities for autonomous workflows and AI copilots across trading organizations.
- Business capability development — trading capability assessment and benchmarking, capability and operating/organization design, business process design, change program planning, business and IT readiness and training, and operational excellence.
- Risk & regulatory advisory — risk strategy and policy design; risk capability assessment and design across market, credit, operational and climate risk; and regulatory and compliance capability (KYC, AML, trade surveillance).
- Technology advisory & transformation — technology strategy and architecture design, IT operating model design, technology capability building, program QA and health checks, and vendor selection and implementation.
Tools & Technology
To excel in this role you'll bring hands-on, in-depth experience across most of the following — though no one is expected to know every tool:
- Trading & risk systems: Endur, Allegro, RightAngle and comparable ETRM/CTRM platforms.
- AI Platforms: Azure OpenAI, VertexAI, Amazon Bedrock, LangChain, ML Flow
- Cloud & warehousing: AWS, Azure and Google Cloud; Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery and Synapse.
- Engineering: Databricks, Kafka, Airflow and Flink; storage formats such as Parquet and ORC.
- Analytics & ML: Power BI, Tableau, Qlik and Looker; Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch and Databricks.
- Integration & governance: Informatica, Talend and MuleSoft; Collibra and Alation; GDPR, CCPA, DAMA and DCAM.
- Programming and AI technologies: Python, SQL, APIs, LLM frameworks, Scala and R.
Your Skills and Experience
We're looking for people with strong client delivery and relationship-building skills, coupled with deep advisory expertise in data, AI and commodity and energy trading:
- Director: 15+ years, including leadership of large-scale data, AI and trading transformation programs.
- Strong mentoring skills and a record of building high-performing teams.
- Strategy, design and implementation of advanced analytics and AI platforms for trading organizations.
- A recognized voice in the market - publishing perspectives, contributing to industry forums and shaping client thinking on data, AI and the future of commodity and energy trading.
- A comprehensive understanding of the energy and petrochemicals value chains.
- Capability assessments and target operating model development for trading organizations.
- Leadership of business and IT transformation programs, including change management.
- Client-side advisory for modernizing trading systems, with a focus on market-leading vendor solutions such as OpenLink and RightAngle.
- Proven ability to evaluate data maturity and architect solutions that bridge business and technical needs.
- Proven ability to grow accounts and expand client relationships.
- A demonstrable track record of landing and originating new accounts.
- Experience leading a practice and building a business as a horizontal within a consulting practice.
- Nice to have - experience as a trader or in a commercial IT function in industry.
