Optoelectronic Measurements & AI Lead Systems Engineer

Toronto, Canada

Position overview

We are seeking a senior engineer to lead the development of advanced optoelectronic measurement systems for semiconductor test and photonics engineering applications. This role focuses on automated measurement platforms used for electro-optic characterization, wafer-level metrology, and high-volume manufacturing environments. You will define and deploy robust semiconductor measurement architectures that integrate instrumentation control, data infrastructure, and AI-enabled optimization to support production-ready semiconductor and quantum device workflows

Responsibilities

  • Define the end-to-end system architecture, specifying how AI agents interface with customer hardware, data infrastructure, and EDA workflows
  • Lead the technical integration of sub-systems (instrument drivers, algorithms, database layers) to ensure they function as a cohesive, fault-tolerant product
  • Specify and drive system-level KPIs (e.g., measurement throughput, latency, thermal stability, data integrity, failure rates) across the team.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for key customers. Translate their requirements into engineering tasks
  • Lead the deployment and commissioning of our systems at customer facilities and ensure smooth integration with their existing tool chains.
  • Gather user feedback to inform the product roadmap and prioritize R&D efforts.
  • Drive integration between measurement software, instrument control layers, and modelling or design tools
  • Define product interfaces and abstractions that enable scalable deployment across diverse hardware environments
  • Establish best practices for applying agentic AI to high-stakes physical experimentation and manufacturing environments

Requirements

  • M.S. or PhD in Engineering (electrical or mechanical), Applied Physics or equivalent industry experience
  • 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a system-level or customer-facing technical role
  • 5+ years of professional experience in quantum technologies, semiconductor process control, photonics, or related domains
  • 3+ years of experience in automation of measurements and data analysis
  • Deep familiarity with semiconductor test flows (Wafer Acceptance Test, reliability testing, screening), especially related to electro-optic characterization
  • Demonstrated experience working with external clients, partners, or vendors
  • Experience technically leading a small, cross-functional team (reviewing code, setting timelines, unblocking architectural disputes).
  • Familiarity with machine learning or AI approaches applied to scientific or engineering problems
  • Strong communication skills and experience working across research, product, and industry boundaries

Nice to have

  • Experience working directly with semiconductor companies, foundries, and R&D partners
  • Experience with formal systems engineering methodologies
  • Experience with agentic AI frameworks and tooling
  • Experience with high volume manufacturing environments
  • Experience in autonomous experimentation, closed-loop optimization, or self-driving lab concepts
  • Track record of translating research systems into deployed products
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering best practices for scientific or industrial systems
  • High agency: self-starter, no task too large or too small attitude.

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.

How do you know if you have a disability?
