M&A Strategist (m,f,d)

Munich

The Role

As an M&A Strategist, you will operate at the intersection of the C-suite, corporate strategy, and capital markets, working in direct collaboration with the broader senior leadership team. You will identify and shape inorganic growth opportunities, evaluate acquisition and partnership targets, and lead transactions end-to-end—from initial thesis to closing and early integration.

The focus is on defence and dual-use technologies in a fast-moving deep-tech environment, including robotics and autonomous systems, AI-enabled mission software, sensors/ISR, secure communications, and cyber resilience. You will combine strategic clarity with hands-on execution and a strong bias for action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & portfolio development: Partner with leadership to refine the buy-and-build roadmap and define investment theses across priority capability areas.
  • Market & ecosystem intelligence: Continuously map the defence-tech and dual-use landscape (Europe and global), identify trends, and translate insights into actionable M&A and partnership priorities.
  • Target sourcing & pipeline management: Proactively originate and qualify targets (including off-market), maintain a structured target pipeline, and prepare prioritisation and decision frameworks.
  • Business cases & valuation: Build investment cases and valuation ranges scenario/sensitivity analyses tailored to deep-tech and defence realities.
  • End-to-end deal execution: Own the transaction process from outreach and NDA through LOI, diligence, and closing; coordinate internal teams and external advisors across all workstreams.
  • Diligence leadership: Run commercial, financial, technical/product, legal, IP, cybersecurity, and regulatory workstreams; pressure-test technical differentiation, delivery capability, and scalability.
  • Negotiation & structuring support: Help shape deal terms (governance, retention, earn-outs, warranties) and support contract negotiations together with legal counsel.
  • Post-merger integration (early phase): Drive the first integration phase to ensure teams, processes, and roadmaps dock effectively and synergies are realised without slowing execution.
  • Stakeholder management: Communicate clearly with C-level stakeholders, boards/shareholders, and external partners; deliver concise, decision-grade materials.

Your Profile

  • Experience: 7+ years in corporate development / strategy roles or M&A consulting/advisory, with hands-on exposure to the full transaction lifecycle.
  • Deal execution: Demonstrated ability to run workstreams independently and deliver board-level outputs under time pressure.
  • Analytical strength: Excellent financial modelling and valuation skills; comfortable building robust investment cases from scratch.
  • Deep-tech fluency: Ability to quickly understand complex technical business models (hardware + software, autonomy stacks, AI/ML, sensors, secure systems) and translate them into strategic and financial implications.
  • Defence/dual-use understanding: Strong interest in defence technologies and the European security landscape; familiarity with regulated environments.
  • Ways of working: High ownership, proactive, structured, and pragmatic; you thrive in dynamic environments and move from insight to execution quickly.
  • Communication: Negotiation-level English and German; confident engaging senior stakeholders and influencing across functions.
