Senior Linux Systems Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Linux Systems Engineer to join the infrastructure team supporting Cronon within the IONOS Group.

This role focuses on operating and improving Linux-based infrastructure environments used by enterprise customers. You will work closely with the systems engineering team responsible for maintaining and evolving the platform infrastructure.

The position is hands-on and operational, involving infrastructure management, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of existing environments. The team works in an international context where English is the main working language.

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain Linux-based infrastructure environments

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues in production

• Support and diagnose database-related issues involving MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL

• Manage and maintain virtualized environments based on VMware

• Use configuration management and automation tools, mainly Ansible

• Handle infrastructure support tickets and operational tasks

• Contribute to system upgrades, maintenance activities and lifecycle management of platforms

• Participate in infrastructure-related projects when required

• Join daily team stand-ups and collaborate with international colleagues

• Participate in a shared on-call rotation (approximately one week per month) together with a team of six engineers

What we are looking for:

We are looking for an experienced Linux engineer who is comfortable working in production environments and solving infrastructure issues independently.

• Several years of experience administering Linux systems in production

• Solid understanding of Linux system administration and troubleshooting

• Experience working with Ansible or similar configuration management tools

• Experience managing virtualized environments such as VMware

• Experience troubleshooting databases such as MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL

• Comfortable working in English within an international engineering team

Nice to have:

• Experience in hosting, managed services or infrastructure environments

• Experience working with medium-sized infrastructures (tens or hundreds of servers)

• Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical initiatives

• German language skills
