What we are looking for:
We're looking for an experienced IT Operations Engineer to help run and evolve the infrastructure powering our core products. You'll be responsible for the health, performance, and reliability of a large fleet of Debian Linux servers and the operational lifecycle of our in-house software stack. This is a hands-on role for someone who's comfortable operating distributed, highly-available systems at scale and enjoys the intersection of systems engineering, automation, and production support.
- Own the day-to-day administration of a large-scale fleet of Debian-based servers (bare metal and/or virtualized), including provisioning, patching, hardening, and lifecycle management
- Build and maintain configuration management and automation to keep server configuration consistent and reproducible across environments
- Monitor system health, capacity, and performance; proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks before they impact production
- Manage package repositories, OS upgrades, kernel updates, and security patching cycles across the fleet
- Maintain networking, DNS, firewall, and load-balancing configuration supporting the server estate
- Operate, monitor, and support our in-house systems in production, including release deployment, hot code upgrades, and node/cluster management
- Work closely with the software engineering team to troubleshoot issues
- Tune system performance and stability at scale
- Support release engineering practices and coordinate rolling deployments and rollbacks
- Deploy, monitor, and maintain in-house services including build pipeline integration, packaging, and runtime configuration (e.g., JVM tuning, systemd units for Rust binaries)
- Diagnose and resolve production issues spanning application, runtime, and OS layers across different language stacks
- Collaborate with development teams to define deployment standards, health checks, and observability requirements for new services
- Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, and logging infrastructure (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, or similar) covering OS, application, and BEAM-specific metrics
- Build automated tooling and scripts (Bash, Python, Go) to reduce manual operational toil and improve incident response time
- Participate in an on-call rotation, respond to incidents, and drive root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews
- Own and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines for deployments
- Contribute to disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity planning across the fleet and core services
- Implement and maintain system hardening standards, access controls, and audit logging across the Linux fleet
- Support vulnerability management processes, including scanning, triage, and timely remediation
- Ensure operational practices align with relevant security and compliance requirements
Basic Qualifications:
- Very strong ability to listen attentively, apply logic and reason, follow- through, can-do attitude, and exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
- Easy to work with
- Sense of urgency
- 3+ years of experience in an IT Operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Systems Administration role, ideally supporting production infrastructure at scale
- Solid knowledge of Chinese Cantonese and Chinese Mandarin
- Strong hands-on experience administering Debian/Ubuntu Linux servers in production (systemd, networking, storage, package management)
- Comfort supporting services in production, including build artifacts, runtime configuration, and debugging
- Solid experience with configuration management/automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Salt, or similar)
- Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, VictoriaMetrics, or similar)
- Strong scripting ability
- Comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)
- Experience participating in an on-call rotation and handling production incidents calmly and methodically
- Familiarity with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) even if the primary fleet is bare-metal/VM based
- Experience with JVM tuning and Java application operations
- Experience with Rust build toolchains (Cargo) and packaging Rust binaries for production
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform or similar)
- Background in high-availability, low-latency, or telecom-style systems
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong focus on service quality and providing the best possible user experience, with meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Comfortable working in dynamic, multicultural environments, both as a member of cross-functional teams and independently
- Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
What we offer:
- Ambitious and self-driven culture
- Generous leave entitlements
- Hybrid working mode (WFH)
- Personal and professional development focus and room for creative ideas
- Fun place to work where everyone is valued
- Free drinks and snacks
