Energy Operations Manager (German speaker)

Berlin, Germany

The Second Foundation Group is an international energy trader with approximately 350 employees across locations in Prague (CZ), Zug (CH), Mainz (DE), Berlin (DE), Houston (USA), and Tokyo (JP). We specialize in the physical trading of electricity in 21 markets across Europe, North America, and Asia.

Our focus is on integrating and optimizing the marketing of renewable energies and battery storage systems in the power market. Since 2023, the Second Foundation Group has been investing in its own assets, primarily focusing on battery storage systems. With a portfolio of 15 battery storage projects totaling over 500 MW, our next goal is to become a leading owner and operator of battery storage systems in Germany. Through efficient and innovative storage concepts, we aim to further the penetration of renewable energy. With an efficient and effective back-office, we ensure both sustainable economic success and high customer satisfaction.

To achieve this, our employees are at the center of everything we do. The Second Foundation Group employs some of the brightest minds from diverse disciplines, including computer science, mathematics, and economics, to solve the seemingly unsolvable challenges of energy markets. We believe in individual development opportunities and foster an environment where teamwork, innovation, and personal growth are highly valued.

Our work environment promotes freedom and creativity, offering the chance to work on exciting topics in an inspiring setting, free from corporate constraints. We are committed to advancing the energy transition with our storage concepts, which is why we place great importance on a highly efficient and forward-thinking back-office department.

  • Support for other teams that require energy data from your area (e.g., billing, controlling, portfolio management, origination).
  • Collaboration with IT in Prague for the integration of back-office processes and tools into the new IT platform.
  • Cooperation with and support for other teams, such as sales and origination.

What makes you a great candidate?

  • University degree in Energy Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with energy data processes in Germany and an understanding of the German electricity market.
  • Experience with virtual power plants and balancing group/grid management; experience in energy trading is a plus.
  • Basic programming skills, experience with databases and SQL (preferably in Python), as well as a desire for personal development and a passion for automation.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • High level of commitment and sense of responsibility.
  • Strong analytical skills and a structured way of working.
  • Curiosity and openness to innovation to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluent German and English skills, both written and spoken.

What do we offer?

  • Competitive remuneration package with attractive variable component.
  • Working with absolute experts in algorithmic trading.
